We'll Put Nigeria in Space, Says Obasanjo

PRESIDENT Olusegun Obasanjo said yesterday that the Federal Government was working on a programme that would see Nigerians land in space between the next 15 and 25 years.

"It is not as unattainable as it looks, and we have to do it. If we are going to make progress, we are going to make it on the basis of commitment, service and sacrifice," he stated.

"In 15 to 25 years, we will put Nigerians into space. We will get there and we are not going to be found wanting," he added.

I seriously doubt Negroes have the genes for space, especially mentally. They might be too stupid and too low on self-descipline.

Actually that might be what saves our kind in the long run, if Earth is over-run by the genetically challenged and pigmentally over-endowed.

Only it will not be with Nigerian money, or Nigerian knowhow.

We put a chimp in orbit decades ago. Perhaps we'll be asked to assist in doing so again?

On 26 September 2003 Nigeria launched its first national satellite NigeriaSat-1 in Plestek, Russia under a seven-nation constellation (the other countries being the UK, China, Algeria, Turkey, Thailand and Vietnam) being handled by a Russian firm, Cosmos.

Nigeriasat-1 is a low earth orbit micro satellite for disaster monitoring looking spacecraft, 5-year target design life-span orbit 700km. The Disaster Monitoring Constellation satellites, which cost less than $10 million each, are built by a British-based company, Surrey Satellite Technology.

The Nigerian contribution in this venture seems to be limited to paying other countries to do the work for them. eyes:

If Nigerian aerospace engineers and scientists are able to put one of their own in space within the next 15 years, without a significant amount of outside assistance, then I will quite happily go out into the forest and shoot myself.

Nigerians in space, what a great idea!!! But they need a large, roomy space shuttle in which to carry guests. Let's see, there are a whole list of people I hope the Nigerians take with them as guests on their space shot. Off the top of my list I hope they take: George Bush, Dick Cheney, Lance Armstrong, Quincy Jones, Michael Jackson, Michael Chertoff, Jessie Jackson, David Asman, Shepard Smith, Madonna (they are going to need a woman), Diane Feinstein, Barbara Boxer, and these are just the Americans. The Nigerians will have to transfer the entire cargo hold on their shuttle into provisions for passengers for the other nationalities which should take this trip.
