Halo: Combat Evolved was one of the first games I ever played. Despite it's antiquated physics and graphics, it's sandbox is above all well-rounded and balanced while the enemy NPCs were ahead of their times. They weren't simply efficient, they also conveyed emotional reactions more convincingly than some of today's NPCs.

I play some old games sometimes ... and I often look for older games that are at pretty good prices.

The oldest games I have on my Gog list are Starflight I and Starflight II (1986 and 1991)

    https://www.gog.com/game/starflight_1_2

I had one of these for my Tandy 1000 back in the late 80's.

I haven't played these through yet but I got them on a sale . They were quite well thought of as a high point for space adventure/exploration type games for that era.

but I have various games that are years behind the current era .... I can't really compete with keeping at the newest tech level so older games (2012 and below) are great for my computer.

Then there are newly made games that are rather like older games ... sometimes they even design them to be pixelated graphics (ie, without smooth antialiased edges) like an old school game (but perhaps with some modern effects like glows and things).

I just picked up this new RPG kind of game called "Balrum" that looked interesting ... kind of a surviver RPG exploration thing that is rather old school graphics.

I still play Alpha Centauri to this day. And old gems like Deus Ex.
