    Did you try http://pentagram.sourceforge.net/ ?

    As for Dosbox,
I think this is not fixable (maybe you should try two or three earlier versions of dosbox, sometimes it helps). Dosbox is veeery slow, and that's the main drawback of this program.

By the way, for playing ultima 7 (including add-ons) you can use Exult, http://exult.sourceforge.net
I tried and it works perfectly.

Also, scummvm.sourceforge.net - useful program, it supports a lot of quests, like Simon the Sorcerer or Secret of the Monkey Island.

I actually just got it working (somewhat, it crashed after the intro and the sound was merely a digital headache..) with a patch from here and a thing called u8win9x from here. The site also mention sound problems etc which I will begin tackling now.

I just might get it to work without Dosbox yet

    Pentagram project is alternative also:
Pentagram is a project aiming to create an Ultima 8 engine for use on modern operating systems, including Linux, Mac OS X and Windows.

I must admit that the only RPG I was able to finish was Fallout2. :frown:

I checked out pentagram, but as its still evolving and not quite finished i don't see the point of playing for 3 weeks and then getting sdtuck as they havent finished that part yet.

I'm also bad at finishing RPG's.. lately Betrayal at Krondor and Albion were both more or less left as they were even through I was close to the end.. too often it seems the creators of a game lose interest or run out of ideas at the end and then it becomes just a case of running back and forth, back and forth for small bits of info or items... really gets dull..

I like hack&slash. I finished Diablo I for many times, but that's because of its super atmosphere (music, graphics, everything was excellent). It's not RPG of course...

I always wanted to finish Lord of the Rings RPG, but I never managed to... It's just too hard for me.

I'm going to play Fable (http://www.abandonia.com/games/631/Fable.htm), old adventure game that I'm currently downloading.

    Awesome graphics!

I wish I could get it to work via my XP DOS prompt, but I just get error messages, same if i try to start it in windows.
You use XP in PII400? How it works? Isn't it very slow? I do not dare to use XP in my PentiumIII500, instead I use Win98SE, and have not much problems in getting even older dos-games run (atleast in 98's dos-mode). :fi:

It works quite nicely and has been a stable platform for some 8-9 months already. The only thing I miss is a proper DOS prompt because the machine is so slow I'm confined to older games, and the ones I like are all from the mid nineties!!

Damn you to hell Bill Gates!!

I never did get ultima 8 to work properly, but hey, what can you do.

Just finished the cyberpunk adventure game Dreamweb, and am currently downloading another old classic I used to love; Settlers!

the first, the original, the best!
