Silent Hunter III is indeed a great game. But as you say, even though I have the pc for it and all, I just don't game that much anymore. I find saving my people to be of more interest for some peculiar reason. :

    Unitarian +Creative +Subterranian are best (18)
Then get Telepathy when you have created a master race.

Darloks are funny, when everyone else hates you for using biological weapons, darlocks actually like you more.. go figure
So just get biostuff and soon you will have a new friend (along with lots of worlds)

Oh and not to forget, always build ships that have extra marines and transporters. Very handy on those antarians.. and even better when you can steal their tech!

Also i so like the trick of 1 irradiated and 4 asteroids/gas.
Colonising the radiated world and finally constructing the 4 into planets.. now give the radiated as a gift to your worst enemy, and stellarconvert it!
Now reconstruct the asteroids into a nice large world.
Actually that should be done to all medium or smaller worlds... Lebensraum!

Downloaded the BRILLIANT RPG Albion(1995) a few days ago, this is fantastic! A very deep storyline, lots and lots of characters and items, and well thought out all-round. I played a demo of this (came with some british game mag) in 1995 and I loved it! Only thing is I cant get the sounds to work (damn you XP!). Now I have to go look for Dreamweb and other games like this

I am currently heading out for a smoke (stupid with this cough, I know, but its my first in 3 days!) to think and try to decide whether to download Ultima 8: Pagan which I played when it was new and LOVED, or Ultima IX:Ascension which I have never played...

If anyone has played these, please offer your opinion.

Ultima 8... thats was the one with the big red angry head?

Long time ago, but here are some memories.. never finished it.

    * You can steal potions from the potion maker.. just wait until he goes outside and fill your backpack

    * Find the pirate treasure... sw (?) tiny island (it has dragons?)

    * I never figured out how to operate the hidden lever in the pirate casino... great treasure..? Or atleast the next leg in some mystery..

    * Take your ship to.. umm.. beneath the compass. That was one of the places i went for asap, even tho i guess its supposed to be done much later... get those helmets protecting you.. cannot remember. Maybe that was were the minerals were that was then to be taken to a smith?

    * I did join up with the mysterious cult.. not that im sure if it did any good, or bad.

    * Mortal combat, there is a battle where yoi can double all your money. Feel free to double to dragon and pirate hoards... The opponent goes down with a single hit

    * A magical carpet somewhere... either the compass island or the dragon hoard. Cannot remember... must be a decade old flashback.
Supposedly some plateu you need it for..

No.. I think you're talking about 7(which I've never played), as I've played 6 but mostly was about gargoyles...

    Screenshot from U8: Pagan

Screenshot from U7: The Black Gate

EDIT: Just realized you may be talking about Ultima 7 part 2: Serpent Isle and not part 1: The Black Gate.. Too many Ultimas... confusing

I use Dosbox. Do you have any problems running it?

I am old games fan, actually. Where do you get them? I get them mostly from abandonia.com

    What I like:
    1. Another World
    2. Civilisation
    3. Wolfenstein 3-d
    4. Old RPG's (Mostly i do not finish them, because they are too hard for me)

My favourites are quests, though. Simon the Sorcerer, for example. I simply love this game. It's the best game for me.

Yeah, I did finally get Ultima 8 running via the Dosbox, but with my 400-something Pentium II the game runs like stuck in molasses!! changing the CPU cycles and frameskipping helped a little (very little) but the music is choppy and the game is effectively so slow you don't want to play it, CANT play it for more than 2 minutes before losing your nerves...

I wish I could get it to work via my XP DOS prompt, but I just get error messages, same if i try to start it in windows.
