I learned how to play the game about...4 years ago?

Ever since I have been a pretty casual player, never taken too much seriousness to the game. I haven't really found a suitable opponet yet, I can beat almost anyone except my step father.

Want to see a real chess blunder?

There was this interesting discussion about Kasparov vs. Deep Blue. I can't find it anymore, so I assume it got lost.

I wanted to make an addendum, however. Here is a real blunder.

Deep Fritz vs. Kramnik, 5th Game in Bahrein.

This is the position after the 34th move of white. Deep Fritz is white, Kramnik is black.

Kramnik plays 34. ... Qc4?? and loses his knight and the game. Chess world champions seem to be human, after all.

Last time I played online (more than a year ago), it was against someone from India. I thought: hehe, little brown girl will be dead in no time. Turned out her yahoo ranking was close to 1900 (which I was told is VERY high), so you can guess what happened. I actually defended pretty well, until I made a stupid blunder and got pwn3d.

How does that lose the game? After that 35. Qxe5 ... Qxc8 (for morons: Qxc8 = Black queen kills white knight), and Kramnik has good chances with the passed B-pawn

Or if 35. Qxc4 Nxc4 and the passed pawn is still defended

well, I suppose by triangulation you might expect that the white king could stop the B-Pawn, but this is not clear from Qc4

Post Chess - An Ancient Aryan Game

    Early days of chess:
References to chess history first began to appear in Sanskrit literature in the 7th century A.D. Sometimes the only mention is not to the history of chess as a game but to the chess board, or ashtapada. This could be a chess board or an older Indian game played on an 8x8 board with dice. Ashtapada in Sanskrit means having 8 legs. The term was used for a spider, a legendary being with 8 legs, and a game board.

For chess history - perhaps the first mention to game pieces that could be chess is found in Vasavadatta by Subandhu (550-620). It was written in Sanskrit around 600 AD. It is contained in a romantic story telling the story of Princess Vasavadatta (daugher of King Pradyota) of Ujjaini falling in love with King Udayana of Vatsa. There is a description for chessmen (nayadyutair) and chess squares (koshthika) on a two-colored chess board. The history of chess games itself was probably Chaturanga (not mentioned by Subandhu), possibly the earliest ancestor of our modern chess. Chaturanga in Sanskrit means four parts. This may be modelled by the Indian army platoon which had four parts - elephants, chariots, soldiers on horseback, and foot-soldiers - a suitable and probable start for the chess history...

I would like to know your views on chess. Thank you for response.
