Do You Create?

How many of you have tried your hand at the so called 'creative arts'? Anyone here who writes, paints, makes music etc?

I myself have never been very musical, but I do like to fool around with Corel 9, and at times draw by hand, mostly sketches and characters for my novel, wherein lies one of my passions; I like writing. I tried my hand at poetry a few years back but found I sucked, so I gave that up, but I have continued writing my still untitled post-apocalyptic story, which now spans some 200 A4 pages, and have notes lying everywhere filled with ideas, dialogue, scenes, sketches etc.

So, what do you do?

I'm not a creative person in the artistic sense.

I'm more of a networker, organiser, tactician and visionary.

Very bad. Never played it as a kid, and chess is notoriously hard to learn as an adult.

Thankfully, something better than chess exists.

Begin with a function of arbitrary complexity. Feed it values, "sense data". Then, take your result, square it, and feed it back into your original function, adding a new set of sense data. Continue to feed your results back into the original function ad infinitum. What do you have? The fundamental principle of human consciousness.

Do I create? God, what a question. I studied Sculpture, which nowadays means conceptual art; installation, performance etc. I have an M.A in it.
But to answer the question directly, no, I do not work, (except 60 hours a week as a night-watchman which does not count for much but gives me plenty of time to think). I have not been doing what I'm suposed to do for two years now, since I left college.

I'm playing in a band. Guitars. So that's kind of creative, I think. Mostly. Sometimes it's just loud. :laugh:

DId I mention I'm a great fan of photography as an art form? I'd be veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery interested in looking at your work. What kind of music do you play?

Yeah, its hard finding work as an artist, guess the 'starving' part wasn't added for nothing.. :suomut:
