    Post AW: Re: hardest sport

    Squash, allegedly.
    "slavic" languages are absolutely arteficial (Read "slawenlegende"). The "glagolica", invented by a bunch of monks, is nothing but an ancient esperanto, creating new words, definitions and alphabet out of regional slangs.

    The craddle of European Civilization comes from the North. All blond people originate from the north. So if you see a blond-blue eyed Slovene, Russian, Czech, Polak ect., you can be 100% sure that his ancient ancestors originated from "Germanics" (Germanic = Nordic).
    "slovenja" was the settelment of the Langobards = Germanics/Teutons. "Poland" of the Goths and East-Vandals ect. ect. What do "slavs" tell us about their origin?
    Some silly story that they originate from some swamps in the east and popped out of no where into history.

    So you see my dear "Gorostan" [=Triglav], you are in reality a "Germanic" indoctrinated with panslav propaganda and historic fantasy stories. ~Dr. Brandt, former TNP and Skadi member

    No discussion of tough sports can be complete without mentioning Hurling the toughest gaelic game. It is quite dangerous and takes a long time to master, if a child does not start before about age eight they are never likely to become a first-class player.

    Horned God, I was thinking of a very similar (but thoroughly North American) sport -- Lacrosse. I think that these kinds of 'stick sports' generally require a very fine balance of skills.

    Lacrosse, even more than requiring a great deal of skill, is also a very a brutal game. After all, if your opponent has the ball or is within 5 yards of a loose ball, you can hit or spear him with your stick or check him with your body.

    The Indians would occasionally use an inter-tribal lacrosse match to settle disputes instead of going to war. Of course, fatalities were still common. When they played, the goals would sometimes be miles apart and there were no injunctions against striking one's opponent in the head.

    Yikes! Get within 5 yards of the ball and you'er fair game?
    Even in Hurling a player is not permited to strike at an opponent with the stick (the Hurley) but only to ram him with his shoulder, known as a "fair shoulder". Unless of course, he is struck first, in which case the ensuing Freeforall will be a sight to behold! But mindyou, any extra-legal physical confrontaton will generally only involve fists, feet, elbows and heads, us Irish being a terribly restrained lot. Which reminds me the oft applyed description;
    "(such a man) is a very nice fellow but he'd take your life on a Hurling field!

    Hmm.. and the goal posts miles apart. I can just imagine it taking place across a great plain.. two whole tribes and one ball. Less of a game, more a limited form of war-fare...Nice pictures btw.
