I just found out about Salvarael Lalique. He has an amazing story and amazing needle paintings!

    What a story!

    Here is his website: http://www.laliquegoldenembroideries.com/index.html

One of my favourites from his needle paintings is Four Seasons (in the videos above it seems to be named Celebration): http://laliquegoldenembroideries.com...s/default.html So amazing details!!!

Elongated face, piano fingers and big, droopy eyelids.

Makes me think of everything abstract; the serene, subtle mind that reaches heaven.

And those long, winding brushstrokes, like a wind leading you there.

Fresh Breeze - Hans Dahl. (1900. Norwegian title "I frisk bris").

Some of my ancestors sailed boats like these. They are klinker-built boats, just like the longships.

Peder Balke - Fra Nordland (1860s)

Balke seems to have started off as an average Romantic painter, but some of his later work strikes me as quite original.

Fra Nordland and similar paintings of his have a lofty, ethereal quality. The mountains look like foreboding castles in the skies.

And what first seems like a very intricate painting is really just a few strains of paint pasted onto the canvas with a palette knife (or so it seems to me).

A brilliant use of the technique: it suits the slippery character of mountains and waves really well and creates the illusion of complex and detailed realism.
