Question Any Info on Germanic Death Rituals?

I was wondering if anyone had any interesting information about death rites/rituals with the Germanic peoples. My father is about to join his father in the Halls and I'm wondering if anyone can share info on what our ancient fathers did to celebrate their dead.

Well, in Norse mythology, you'd go to Valhalla when you died. Unless you were a coward/bad person. I'm sure somebody could be more specific. I just started university and all I can think of right now are photons and such.

According to Evola the Hyperborean peoples burned their dead, while the Southern peoples buried them. So I am definitely going to be burned after death.

Also there are many hints that our ancestors believed in inter-generational rebirth, after death and some time in Valhalla, the soul of the dead would be reborn in his own familygroup.

Since I am on the way to my bus, I cant write more, but Ill do some research.

Thank you for the input. He peacefully died in his sleep tonight and I have already made plans for his cremation. I am undecided about the best place for the ashes. I'm going to think about it a while until the right solution makes itself appear.

My sincere condolences...Have an ale/beer to his memory. Pick a peaceful & foresty or watery (lake/ocean/stream) place for the final releasing of the ashes...(you will know the spot from the aura & atomsphere).

Look to the sky & think of past kin & fallen warriors. Feel the power & enlightenment fill you & project this feeling around you. Drink & pour the ground with your brew. Trace the hammer in the air...and say...

"May the gods of the North
    receive & protect this soul.
    May the Maidens of Odin,
    bring forth horns of mead
    of happiness,contentment & victory.
    Turn ending into beginning....
    So shall it be!... HAIL!"

AngryPotato, you have my sympathy. I have lost both parents. My mother insisted upon cremation. She always wanted Wagner's Entrance of the Gods to Valhalla played upon her death. I plan to distribute her ashes near a hill she and her freinds frequented as teenagers while playing the piece mentioned. Please listen to Wagner's Entrance of the Gods to Valhalla. I am sure your father will approve.
