As my mums family lives on the East coast of Northern England (though not in a Trappist monestary); the last thing I want is a feud with some cheesed off vikings...lol

Yes- that is an important point. If I remember Agrippa correctly, it is generally known as Infantile Blondism, common enough in England. But, nevertheless, I think it is true that percentages do vary between populations - and that was the point about comparing German Holstein to say, Austria or upper Bavaria. Best remain within Germany since that is the Thread topic. Bronze age Northfolk migrated southwards out of the north only gradually in the preRoman and Roman periods.

The fact that the Finns have one of the highest degrees of blondism in the world presents an interesting paradox. Why are the Suomi so similar in appearance to their Germanic neighbours in eastern Scandinavia yet so genetically and linguistically distinct? Who are the Ur-Blonds? The Finno-Ugric progenitors of the Finns, or the Germanic peoples? Or have Finns simply been largely assimilated by Germanic neighbours; or, are many Finns simply Finno-Ugric speaking Germanics with a slightly modified genome as a result of moderate interbreeding with the Finns?

Yes - I do suspect that Finnish result somewhat . I would also suggest that the northern coast of Germany and Frisia should also be in the higher category - but perhaps not. Is this a modern map - clearly England has been "settled" !

To me it sounds like another reason to marginalize fair-people as not being the original inhabitants of Europle. There really isn't enough information given to conclude that all ancient Germans had dark complexions. Tanning easily could be because ancient Europeans were outdoors more in the warmer and sunnier months foraging, hunting, growing foods, and travelling rather than sitting inside their houses like we do nowadays.

3000 years ago wasn't that long ago either considering the fact that ancient Greek and Roman art has depicted some people with having fair-skin and light colored hair as well.

I suspect the bulk of Sweden & Norway is closer to 79%, with North & Eastern Britain closer to 50%, despite being the same colour band on the map.

The colour coding is a bit deceptive, blondism appears to be radiating outwards from an area. Thinking in analogue terms rather than digital (like the map), northern Germany is possibly just as fair haired as the East of the Isles.
