Do you have any experience of working with any of these schools?

As a newbie, I wonder if anyone could recommend a good English-language book on runes. I'd like something scholarly but accessible, and preferably avoiding any 'New Age' frothy nonsense of the sort that infests the 'Mind,Body,Spirit' section of my local bookshop. Help much appreciated. Thank you.

It's out of print, but Freya Aswynn's "Leaves of Yggdrasil" was the best I've read so far. I think her "Northern Mysteries" book is an update of LOY.

She also has an online forum and you can buy rune classes from her. The Runes by Freya Aswynn

Some don't like him, but pick up a copy of Edred Thorsson's Futhark. He has a couple of other books, but start with this one. From what I've seen of other rune books, the other authors pretty much just take his descriptions and material almost verbatim and subtract some of his details surrounding his work, and add their own new-agey stuff to make the plagiarism not quite so glaring.

From what I've seen, only Freya Aswynn's work is significantly different, and not in a competitive way, but a different perspective of the same thing. She's also a Drightine in his Rune-Gild, so they have some connection.
