Study: Women Aroused as Quickly as Men

Night vision is not known for helping anyone get better in the bedroom, but infrared cameras reveal that women become aroused as quickly as men.
In previous research, sexual arousal was generally detected with instruments that require genital contact and manipulation. One might argue that can spoil the mood.
Thermal imaging technology, which uses cameras that detect heat given off by different objects, is a relatively non-invasive way of measuring the time it takes a person to reach peak arousal.
So researchers focused the cameras on the genitals of test subjects while the subjects watched footage of pornography, travel shows and horror clips. This provided measurements of heat from both the sexually aroused and from whatever arousal or lack of it was spurred by the other programming.
"Comparing sexual arousal between men and women, we see that there is no difference in the amount of time it takes healthy young men and women to reach peak arousal," said Irv Binik, a McGill University psychology professor and founder and director of the Sex and Couple Therapy Service of Royal Victoria Hospital.
Binik and colleagues were able to detect temperature changes to within 100th of a degree. Both women and men started showing arousal within 30 seconds.
Men reached peak arousal in about 665 seconds, while it took the women 743 seconds, a difference that researchers say is statistically negligible. The researchers hope that this knowledge will help diagnose and treat sexual dysfunction in women.
The findings will be published in the January issue of the Journal of Sexual Medicine.

I think exactly the same. I've read numerous post in other threads and I've heard many people saying things that lead people to believe that men are more quickly aroused than women.

It's pretty silly to believe that imo .

I was surprised at this, I've always thought that men were more readily aroused.

Perhaps it's the case that the increasing bloodflow to the areas concerned [as picked up by the heat detecting machines that were used in this study] occurs just as quickly in each sex, but the secondary results of this [erection and lubrication] take longer to kick in with some women, depending on metabolism and other personal factors?

I've never noticed any marked inconvenience of having to wait. Everything usually happens in good time, as far as I've experienced!

Really? So do you think all those guys that told me in the past, "If you don't have sex with me now my dick will turn blue and drop off", were only lying?? ......
Nah, more a case of mine having done that years ago, and not mattering any more.

I've always heard that arousal in women is brought on primarily by foreplay, whereas in men it is mostly visual.

Strikes me as one of those oft-quoted myths, more than anything else. I mean, in my experience, just beforehand... there's not been much to see other than the bridge of a nose and a pair of eyes. Or a collarbone.

Hmmmm... well, I don't know about that. Most of the guys I've known (well, all that I can think of just now) have fallen squarely into the "lights are on, but nobody's home" category.

Awww... sweetie, don't worry, I'm sure it will grow back .... doodles have nine lives you know. Oh no, hang on... that's only pussies.

I think that's once again a case of men being turned on more easily by mere visuals. This is why strip shows, porn and the like are so popular among men... they can get easily turned on by just looking. Women generally don't. Women generally only go to male strippers for a laugh, or to "pay back" men for their de-humanisation of women, imo. I've yet to hear of a woman who is generally turned on by just a big dick and buff body. Women, from what I know of it (from talking to friends and stuff), would be more likely to want to sleep with a poet or an artist, than a male stripper. Could you honestly say the same for men... would men rather sleep with a woman who is romantic, intelligent and makes him feel special.... or a woman who has a hot body and beautiful face?? I rest my case....
