    Yikes!

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning.
Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of men. (John 1:1-4)

Post Off the Top of My Head...#1:"SUZANNE"

Well, I know that there are dozens of love songs that I love, but off the top of my head there are 3 that I love A LOT!, two by a woman and one by a man listed in this and subsequent posts. My hats go off to those of you who have picked Patsy Cline...good choice, one of my favorites too!

For me, I HAVE to draw my #1 from Frida Lyngstad (my avatar explains it all! LOL It was one of her solo songs before ABBA: "SUZANNE"

    LYRICS (Swedish & English):

    Svensk:

    Suzanne tar dig med
    Hem till sig nära floden
    Du kan höra båtar ljuda
    Sent på natten bredvid henne
När du vet att hon är tokig
Är det därför du är där
Och hon bjuder te och frukter
    Komma ändå ifrån Kina
Och just när du ska säga
Jag har ingen kärlek till dig
Får hon in dig på sin våglängd
    Och hon låter floden svara
    Att du alltid älskat henne
Och visst vill du gå med henne
När du följer är allt väl
Och hon vet att det är sanning
Att du har snuddat hennes kropp
    med din själ
    Jesus var en sjöman
Den gång han gick på vattnet
    Och hans ögon sökte länge
Från ett ödsligt torn av trä
    Och när han visste säkert
    Bara drunknade har kunskap
Sa han alla ska bli sjömän
Tills dess havet ger dem frihet
Men själv så var han bruten
    Långt innan himlen syntes försakad
    Nästan mänsklig för sjunken för
    Din visdom
    Som en sten
Och visst vill du följa honom
När du följer är allt väl
    Och kanhända är det sanning
Att han har snuddat vid din kropp
    Med sin själ
    Nu tar Suzanne din hand
Och hon leder dig till floden
Hon är klädd i lump och fjädrar
    Som nå'n annan burit förut
    Solen flödar lugnt som honung
Ner på din och flodens drottning
Och hon visar för ditt öga
Där bland sopor och bland blommor
Finns det hjältar mitt bland sj8öräs
Det finns barn i någons morgon
Som är svaga för nå'ns kärlek
    Där finns svagheten för evigt
    Och Suzanne häller spegeln
och visst vill du gå med henne
När ni följs åt är allt väl
Och du vet att det är sanning
Att hon har snuddat vid din kropp
    Med sin själ.

    English Translation:

    Suzanne takes you with
Home to herself near the river
You can hear the boats sound
Late on the night by her
When you know that she is crazy
Is it therefore you are there
And she offers tea and fruits
    Coming yet away from China
And just when you shall tell
I have no love for you
She gets in you on her wave-length
And she lets the river answer
    That you always loved her
And certainly you want to go witk her,
When you follow is all well
And she knows that it's truth
That you have twined her body
    With your soul
    Jesus was a sailor
That time he walked on the water
    And his eyes searched long
From a deserted tower of wood
And when he knew for sure
    Only the drowned had knowledge
    Said He, everyone shall become
Sailors until then the sea gives
Them freedom But Himself so was
Broken long before the sky seemed
    Forsaking, almost human for sunken
    For your wisdom
    As a stone
And certainly you want to follow
Him when you follow all is well
    And perhaps is that truth
That He has twined by your body
    With His soul
    Now takes Suzanne your hand
And she leads you to the river
She is dressed in rags and plumes
    As someone other wore before
The sun flows calmly as honey
Down on your and the river's queen
And she shows for your eye
There amid trash and amid flower
    There are heroes midst among
    Seaweed There are children in
    Someone's morning
Who are weak for someone's love
    There exists weakness for eternity
    And Suzanne holds the mirror
And certainly you want to go with
Her When you go together all is
Fine And you know that it is true
That she has twined by your body
    With her soul.

Post Off the Top of My Head...#2:"ONE MAN, ONE WOMAN"

Here's my #2, again from Frida Lyngstad via ABBA: "ONE MAN, ONE WOMAN":

One Man, One Woman Written by: Benny Andersson & Björn Ulvaeus
Recording began 18th July 1977 at Marcus Music, Stockholm

    Lead vocal: Anni-Frid Lyngstad (Hasse)

No smiles, not a single word at the breakfast table
though I would have liked to begin
so much that I wanna say, but I feel unable
you leave and you slam the door
like you’ve done many times before
and I cry and I feel so helpless

    One man, one woman
two friends and two true lovers
    somehow we’ll help each other
    through the hard times
    one man, one woman
    one life to live together
one chance to take that never
    comes back again
    you and me
    ’til the end

Outside I can see the sun through the open window
    inside everything feels so cold
    what’s wrong
    what is happening,
where did all our love go
sometimes when I just can’t cope
I cling to a desperate hope
and I cry and I feel like dying

    One man, one woman
two friends and two true lovers
    somehow we’ll help each other
    through the hard times
    one man, one woman
    one life to live together
one chance to take that never
    comes back again
    you and me
    ’til the end

Daydreams of a better life, but I have to wake up
    – the sound of a key in the door
you smile and I realise that we need a shake up
our love is a precious thing
worth the pain and the suffering
and it’s never too late for changing

    One man, one woman
two friends and two true lovers
    somehow we’ll help each other
    through the hard times
    one man, one woman
    one life to live together
one chance to take that never
    comes back again
    you and me
    ’til the end

What's this Abba fetish all about?

Shall I quote you on what you said about Swedes?

Post Off the Top of My Head...#3:"SILLY LOVE SONGS"

Here's my #3 by Paul MaCartney:"SILLY LOVE SONGS":

    You'd think that people
    Would have had enough
    Of silly love songs
I look around me and I see it isn't so
Some people wanna fill the world
    With silly love songs
    And what's wrong with that?
    I'd like to know
    'cause here I go again
I love you, I love you

    I can't explain the feeling's plain to me;
    Can't you see?
    Ah, she gave me more,
She gave it all to me now can't you see?
    What's wrong with that?
    I need to know

Love doesn't come in a minute
Sometimes it doesn't come at all
I only know that when I'm in it
It isn't silly, love isn't silly,
    Love isn't silly at all

How can I tell you about my loved one?
How can I tell you about my loved one?

Quote only the GOOD quotes, please! You quoting only the BAD quotes would cause all the "Swede worshippers" to declare war on me, and the LAST thing I want to do is fight with others over Swedes...I'd rather fight FOR Swedes! You know I love Swedes, I just don't WORSHIP them like some do! LOL Shall I post a list of Swede worshipping Skadites? ROTF

Good taste, I have to admit. She is awesome.

    Frida rocks. Period.
And all my youth passed by sad-hearted,
    the joy of Spring was never mine;
Autumn blows through me dread of parting,
and my heart dreams and longs to die.

Real misanthropes are not found in solitude, but in the world; since it is experience of life, and not philosophy, which produces real hatred of mankind.

    Post Michelle

Ah, how could I have forgotten this other one by McCartney via the Beatles, Michelle, which is IMO another of the GREATEST love songs of all time.

    LYRICS:

    Michelle
    (John Lennon, Paul McCartney)
    Lead Vocal: Paul McCartney

    Michelle, ma belle
These are words that go together well
    My Michelle

    Michelle, ma belle
Sont les mots qui vont tres bien ensemble
    Tres bien ensemble

I love you, I love you, I love you
That's all I want to say
    Until I find a way
I will say the only words I know that
    You'll understand

    Michelle, ma belle
Sont les mots qui vont tres bien ensemble
    Tres bien ensemble

I need to, I need to, I need to
I need to make you see
Oh, what you mean to me
Until I do I'm hoping you will
    Know what I mean

    I love you

I want you, I want you, I want you
I think you know by now
    I'll get to you somehow
Until I do I'm telling you so
    You'll understand

    Michelle, ma belle
Sont les mots qui vont tres bien ensemble
    Tres bien ensemble

I will say the only words I know
    That you'll understand, my Michelle
