    Marilyn Manson is awesome!

I like what he has to say. No apologies. :-|

"How can you – how can America hate something that it created. It’s like being mad at your own shit. You should have eaten something different. All of that somehow started brewing up in my brain, and when you’re in that position when you’re turning 19 or 20 and you have to decide what you’re going to be when you grow up, I found out that I don’t want to grow up, I want to be Peter Pan.

So I decided to create a world where I didn’t have to play by anybody’s rules and Marilyn Monroe and Charles Manson were the two things that spelled that world out. Phonetically it’s like Abracadabra; you know Manson by his last name, you know Marilyn by the first name and it just goes together like “Mickey Mouse". It says everything; you say “Marilyn Manson” and it needs no explanation. It conjures up such images, no matter what country you’re from. It’s very American, but at the same time I think like a European and my reason for choosing the name is both a celebration and a harsh criticism of America. And that kind of creates the whole contradiction that I thrive on.

[...]I think that European artists appreciate my understanding of American culture because I look at it as an outsider. I was always treated as an outsider and it doesn’t make me hate America, it doesn’t make me love it; it just makes me see it for what it is."

"I don't do things for shock value. I do things because I want to do them, sometimes because I think it's funny. A lot of people don't get my sense of humor, maybe because it is often a bit dark and cynical." http://www.nyrock.com/interviews/2001/mm_int4.asp :-D

    Manson on Politically Incorrect:

"Cyndi: I think we made decisions that there are certain substances that do have a significant enough impact on us to impact our behavior in negative ways.

Marilyn: But you know why it won't work?
    Because, as a simple example.
Sea monkeys, for example, they're not against the law.

    Cyndi: Sea monkeys?

Marilyn: And I've taken those and I've given 'em to people as drugs.
    And it's messed them up.

    [ Laughter ]

    Cyndi: They eat them?
What do they do with them?

    Marilyn: They snorted 'em!
    They snorted the sea monkeys.

Cyndi: Wait a minute, wait a minute.
Do the animal rights people know about this?

Marilyn: Well, they weren't alive. "

I envision a world where people dawning long white robes and elaborate headdresses run rampant down the streets, waving their arms in the air while screaming "we've gone mad, we've gone mad", like defrocked monks breaking the silence of ages past.

Spoonblade: Sharper than a knife and twice as deadly.

    More!

BlkMkt: Well, obviously by your CD, you're into serial killers and stuff right?

Manson: To a certain degree, but no more then anybody else I don't think. I'm not a special fanatic or anything but I'm fascinated with the way people ARE about serial killers, I'm more interested in what makes people so interested. I'm also into the relationship between stars and serial killers and how there's a really fine line.

    BlkMkt: Hollywood Babylon, huh?

Manson: Sure. I thought after seeing Marilyn Monroe and Charles Manson next to each other, it seemed like there wasn't so much of a difference, they weren't such extreme opposites as people thought they were. That line starts to cross - ya know. I tend to seek out things that people consider ugly and I tend to find things that society decides are beautiful and make it unattractive and...

BlkMkt: Like the song "Cake and Sodomy"?

Manson: Yeah! That's kind of my way of going about things. Well you know if someone says that they don't like something, I wanna find out why. Generally I found that the things I don't like are the things I'm afraid of, I don't like weak people because I'm afraid of being weak. I want to think for myself, I don't want people to tell me what to think or what I'm supposed to believe in, and I think that goes for everybody. People often gravitate towards things like Marilyn Manson because of their fears and they like their fears. People are like an amusement park ride and it's ride at your own risk. People see that sign and it makes them want to go in more because they know of that danger. I wonder why society needs something like Marilyn Manson, that's one of the questions that I'm asking. I've been raised on American culture, I'm a true product of America! So it's completely unjustified for society to consider what I'm doing wrong. I'm a symptom of a problem that they created. I came from them and they can't blame anybody but themselves

    More! More! More, Marilyn, More!

"We've always found that with people being so desensitized, things have to be really shocking and have to punch you in the face to get your attention. Then, once you've got their attention. You can say something they might remember."

"So many people are afraid to enjoy life, they're too worried about thriving off their own suffering. They love to live in fear, whether its going to hell, the end of the world, AIDS, crime, whatever it's got to be, people love to be afraid. That's why they love to be afraid. That's why they love to watch the news, they love to look at car crashes, or they love to listen to Marilyn Manson. People want their fear, so in return. I give it to them."

    This is a good interview...

Why are you sick of politically correct America?

Because its not willing to admit its hypocrisy. People are too blind to see its phoniness. All the political correctness now is just another reason to sell a product. I can see them starting a race war just so they can sell a "Free Your Mind" t-shirt. They don't want the problem to go away because then they won't have anything to complain about. People don't want to fix problems because problems are what people thrive on.

I, personally reallly dislike marilyn manson's music, but that is only my opinion. I also want to state that Brittany Murphy is not swedish. She is Italian/Irish/Slavic. The last name is Irish obviously.

marilyn manson is a perverted decadant, who in any decent society would have been put down like the dog "he" is years ago.

A lot of his image and his music is taken from people like Alice Cooper and Kiss, but that doesn't mean he is talentless. Most modern music is derivative ;-)

I like quite a few of his songs, but I prefer what he stands for and represents in society. The degenerate and sick image is just a manifestation of it. I think it's funny how Christian groups and the like feel the need to protest him, to blame him for things like Columbine, etc. How anyone can say it's one man and his music that encourages the degeneration of society is beyond me.

Kids get into his music because they feel out of place in the world. They see themselves as an outcast like him -expected to conform to social norms/standards set by their parents and other authority figures -and they don't really know why. I think younger people have more wisdom that way. They see that something is wrong and they don't want to conform to it -but they lack the age and experience to say what. By the time they do know and can express it, they already found their place as "another brick in the wall"...the spirit burned out and they dont care! We need more Peter Pans ;-)

Artists have been putting forth these ideas since my parents time, and I'm sure before. Just because they don't wear girdles and fake breasts it's not seen as offensive! I think that offensive edge is a good one though :-D

Alice Cooper -Welcome to My Nightmare

    Welcome to my nightmare
I think you're gonna like it
I think you're gonna feel like you belong
    A nocturnal vacation
    Unnecessary sedation
You want to feel at home 'cause you belong

    Welcome to my nightmare
    Welcome to my breakdown
    I hope I didn't scare you
That's just the way we are when we come down
We sweat and laugh and scream here
cuz life is just a dream here
You know inside you feel right at home here
