    Re: Beowulf & Grendel

I know Old Norse, and it is old norse or some varient rather then swedish.

I cannot disagree with what you say.

I am looking to get a moves about Volsunga Saga. We have Wagner's the Ring, which is an opera, but their is a void as far as a movie is concerned (Tolkien based his LOTR from a Ring framework).

The one movie I am about to get is:

    The Nibelungs.

I will give a review once I watch it.

Another Germanic movie is Royal Deceit based on Saxo's account of Hamlet (which shakespeare based his play on).

    Re: Beowulf & Grendel

Beowulf and Grendal to me was an excellant movie. The sympathy for Grendel got to be a little much, and the symbel scenes should have stayed true to the poem, but still a much better work than most Germanic flavored films. I esp. liked though the lack of sympathy for Xianity. Beowulf is a proud Germanic Heathen hero with no use for the "new" religion.

    Re: Beowulf & Grendel

I recently saw the movie Beowulf & Grendel. Excellent costuming and stunning scenery ( though I would have prefered a place with forest). I thought some of the acting was not very convincing. The witch character irritated me every time she spoke. There was too much deviation from the poem in my opinion. I did think that the portrayal of Grendel's mother was perfect. Also the best Viking era boat I've ever seen in a movie. I'll buy the movie just for the scenery, costuming and scene with ship sailing through icey waters. I'll end up turning the sound down and listening to music while I watch it...perhaps Troll by Lumsk.
