Where In England Are You From?

    A poll for English members.

What parts of the country are well represented in the cream of the crop of nationally aware Englishmen and women that is Skadi's "English Folk" section?

Perhaps you would like to tell us all about the special nature of your local area?

As for myself, I'm a Lancastrian, from the Mersey basin - A Northumbrian, Brigante, Setantian and Rheged man. I love the North West, and the North in general, for its wild moorland open spaces, great industrial heritage, and the character and speech of the people.

Do you agree with my divisions of the regions? It's quite hard to do, so be gentle with me!

I was born in Lancashire, so you know the area as well as I do. I love the North for it's hearty real ale, maltier than the southern brews from the hop growing areas.

I'm a Londoner, so obviously i voted for the Essex, Middlesex, etc option. Although these days the constant "aping" of the Jungle bunnies by whites around here makes me think about moving out at least once a week. :s

    Re: Where are you from?

My maternal grand-parents hailed from Yorkshire. Specifically, from Yarmouth, (referred to, apparently, as 'Great Yarmouth'). Incidentally, the grand-father lived to age 85, (not noteworthy), while granny died one month and five days short of her 103 birthday here in Canada on Feb 19, 2002. Born Mar 24, 1899, she saw THREE centuries, and the advent of most significant Aryan inventions. (She missed the invention of the wheel though, heh heh). I was Canadian-born.

"Aping", Jamopy? Truly descriptive! Ya, it annoys me too, the insistance of people to emulate, out of fawning admiration, of these fine specimens that have been imported in droves. Where is Sir Oswald Mosley when you need him?! Our great, (true), Englishmen will now see how right he was. In the words of one English expression used of late, due to the limits of true expression imposed by artificial laws restricting free speech: "Are you thinking what I'm thinking?"

    Re: Where are you from?

Being born in London of English and Scottish parents, I went for the Other option. London is a countrey in its own right, these days, with some parts having a language most English people wouldn't recognise or find on the normal schedule in most schools ....

    Re: Where are you from?

Although I am originally from London, I have for the past 27 years been living in Cambridgeshire.

I do not miss London one little bit! I love the wild flat fens, but I am now thinking of upping sticks and moving to the West Country.
