    Re: Where are you from?

Born and bred Ipswich man. My family have lived there certainly since the 1700's. Born within a sniff of the Port, Ransomes & Rapiers, Cocksedges, Ransomes Sims & Jefferies.

England's longest recorded continuously inhabited town.

My immediate English family hails from Bridgnorth in Salop/Shropshire, though I also have more distant roots in North Yorkshire and East Anglia (Suffolk).

I now live down the road from where I was born in Kentish Town, London, and my parents met on the road which runs adjacent to mine, in the late 70s.

I have lived in Huntingdon and nearby in Eaton Socon, Newcastle, Yorkshire, Lancashire, Edinburgh and Aberdeen, as my father's job took him and us around and I moved for university, but I only moved to London very recently.

I love it around here, and plan to stay for a very long time, but my choice to move here was not based upon my origins, but because this is the best place to study hatha yoga in the country. It is regarded by most people who know it as being a nice place to live, and if I were a multi-millionaire I would still want to live here, and I feel patriotic about it.

My father's family originally came from Glasgow, and my mother's side is mixed of Spain/France/Portugal and Austria, hence my rather un-British sub-nordicness.

Buckinghmshire/Berksire border, and I have absolutely no love for or attachment to this area of the country. I love England (and all of Britain), but not the South-East. It's basically all a suburb of London - heavy traffic and swarms of foreigners to go along with it. Countryside is few and far between. One saving grace is that I live very close to the Saxon Burial mound at Taplow.

I plan to move North, West, or both as soon as possible.

Haha well said. I already came to the same conclusion myself, i consider Bucks part of Greater Londonistahn.

Too many people, too many vehicles, to much industrialisation, the horror, the horror.

I was actually born in Scotland, but my mother's English (from Cumberland) and I don't feel particularly Scottish having spent most of childhood (since age 4) and most of my adulthood in England. I don't feel at all at home on visits to Scotland, as soon as I speak my English accent turns heads. I've never had any trouble, but probably because I only visit the east coast and highlands. I've been advised to avoid Glasgow. I've lived most of my life in Shropshire. Attended university in the Midlands. I lived and worked in London for more than 5 years, but don't miss it at all.

As far as football goes I support England and can't abide petty home nationalism directed by/against the English, Scots and Welsh.

I have a friend, typical Londoner, who hates the Scots (partially understandable I suppose when you see some of the seriously undesirables who've made their home in the capital), but when asked about Scottish independence he's having none of it, "It's British innit?!".
