    In Pictures: Germany's Goth Festival

    This year's Wave-Gotik-Treffen (Wave Gothic Meeting) took place from 2-5 June in Leipzig. The annual festival regularly attracts around 20,000 goths to eastern Germany.

    View here. Some are a bit too extreme for my taste, but anyway...

    Resurgent atavism.

    On a more serious note, I hope that the goth-scene might be influenced somewhat by neofolk and similar genres in the future. Thus far it has only been a very minor influence, but in the future, who knows?

    Nothing wrong with people who dislike suntan, quite the contrary. This modern suntan trend is awful. Pale faced people have a nicer look. It's much more attractive and has always been so in Europe until recently (paleness was seen as sign of aristocracy). Although I've already seen a few extra Europeans in this scene, it is racially speaking very homogenous. Sounds good to me.

    AW: In pictures: Germany's goth festival

    goth = punk

    I am friended with some goth individuals
    but i have a lot of problems with this theatric subculture...
    Some of the them use symbols, wear uniforms for fun and
    provocation - thats decadent, bumptious and childish!

    Re: AW: In pictures: Germany's goth festival

    I can agree to this assessment. I too have many friends who are Goths, and I actually tend to get along with many them quite well. I'll even admit that many aspects to the subculture I even find interesting (except for the general clothing and makeup; although black is my favorite colour). Yeah, I know it sounds strange for a devout Catholic to say that; but in actuality I get along quite well with people of different world-views from mine.

    In fact I'd used to have fun teasing my Goth friends about performing an exorcism on their demon-possessed souls!

    Major artists inside the neofolk music scene came from the (eletro/rock) gothic scene, and others still playing some sort of gothic sound, like Kim Larsen from Of The Wand and The Moon.

    Like metal (Black, Pagan), I believe that gothic will be more and more influenced by ancient/pagan themes. Perhaps it's a natural evolution of european modern music styles, but wheter it has happened in metal and in eletronic music, why not inside gothic?
