    i've noticed (...and have been told) that i like people who look like "male versions of me": similar colouring, bone structure, body type, even mannerisms...except much taller

    often guys who are very handsome (by a general consensus ) are a lot less attractive to me than guys who are not as handsome but look more like me.

    It varies by individual if you ask me.

    People tend to match up with people who are similiar in attractiveness. In Social Psychology this is called the matching theory.

    Attractive people are universally desired. It's a law of nature. So what your saying can't be true. Given if you could change your looks you would like them just as much. This is what Psychologists have termed the Narcissus effect.

    Supposedly we're more attracted to people with the same first letter of our name. Another layer.

    i'm not sure what you're getting at...
    i suspect you may be doubting by second statement (or calling me ugly). in which case i would like to expand - by handsome i meant "the guy looks like he should be in an AE ad", so i realize that he is generally more desired by females, but i don't like that look, so i find myself attracted to people who look more like me, even though to the general female population they are probably less desirable.

    I hope not.
    And all my youth passed by sad-hearted,
    the joy of Spring was never mine;
    Autumn blows through me dread of parting,
    and my heart dreams and longs to die.

    - Nikolaus Lenau (1802-1850)

    Real misanthropes are not found in solitude, but in the world; since it is experience of life, and not philosophy, which produces real hatred of mankind.

    Incredibly.

    I am not even sure the world is ready yet for the male version.
