Same might be with the Neanderthals.

Neanderthals had a very different metabolism running on a much higher energy level (he needed a 5000 calories /day intake). So not only his muscles were much thicker, his lungs were bigger and his brains too.

Not only were his body force much stronger and way more athletic than modern man, most likely his spirituell advancement too.
This matches well with the Qi Gong/Nei Gong theory I know based on the system passed down by the the famous Indian dhyana master Buddhabhadra who was reportedly an Aryan prince.
Basically if you have a strong energy that you can bring to your centre and then to your brain you can activate the 3rd eye. The more abundant the energy the easier the job. Yes it is more complicated than that but that is the overview of it. This is also why although women are more spiritually centred less of them have achieved enlightenment as their energy is less abundant so the proses is harder at higher levels for them.

If you will indulge a bit of non European law I will submit for your attention
a description of the proses of using your energy to cultivar spiritual immortality.

From the book Monkey as told by Zhu Ba Jie the pig.

    I was born stupid,
    An idler and a slacker.
I never nourished my nature or cultivated the truth,
But spent my time in primal ignorance.
Then I happened to meet a true Immortal,
Who sat down with me and chatted about the weather,
Advised me to reform and not to sink among mortals,
For taking life was a heinous sin.
One day, when my life came to an end,
It would be too late to regret the punishments in store.
His words moved me to seek reform,
And my heart longed for miraculous spells.
    I was lucky enough to have him as my teacher;
He showed me the gates of Heaven and Earth.
He taught me the Nine Changes and the Great Return of Cinnabar,
As we worked by night and day with never a break.
It reached up to the Mud Ball Palace in my head,
And down to the Bubbling Spring in my feet.
The circulating magic liquid reached the Flowery Pool under my tongue,
And the Cinnabar Field in my abdomen was given extra warmth.
The Babe, lead, and the Girl, mercury, were married,
And combining together, they divided into sun and moon.
The Dragon and the Tiger were harmonized,
The Sacred Tortoise drank the Golden Crow's blood.
The Three Flowers gathered at the top and returned to the root.
The Five Essences faced the Origin and flowed in all directions.
When their work was done, I could fly,

And the Immortals of Heaven came in pairs to greet me.
Coloured clouds grew beneath my feet,
As I faced Heavenly Palace gates with a body light and strong.

I know this all sounds nonsense but if you know what the names mean it makes a lot of sense. After 10 years + of studying Qi Gong and later some Nei Gong I understand a fair bit of it (sufficient to know what it is anyway). Its an internal alchemy proses and seems universal and matches some of what I know about western traditions. Typical Chines hiding the greatest secrets in view cloaked in obscure words lol

Also things like flying were I am convinced meant as a metaphor as flying would not help you reach heaven on a physical level It reminds me of your description of travelling the rainbow bridge. This is clearly based on a very, very old tradition that can be traced back to India and probably much earlier still if only records were kept.

Currently I am doing very little beyond Tai Chi and Xing Yi practices standing and moving (admittedly its effective although not nearly as much as I should be doing).

The proses I should be doing if I was taking the time.
It starts with abdominal breathing, this builds energy in the abdomen (the "Cinnabar Field in my abdomen"), you then have to graduate to reverse abdominal breathing to be able to move the energy. You use your breath and muscles like a pump to move it although it is a bit more involved than that.

Embryonic breathing ("The Babe, lead, and the Girl, mercury, were married") would be my preferred method for making use of what you have, with it you learn to push and pull energy to your centre and out. Its all about using the diaphragms and breath coupled with visualisations. You slowly learn to lead your energy where you need it. From there you are meant to be able to send it to your brain or more accurately your Pineal gland ("the Mud Ball Palace in my head"), you are also meant to circulate the energy, the micro cosmic orbit ("The circulating magic liquid reached the Flowery Pool under my tongue,"). There is a further stage but its all very complicated. It is a combination of visualisation and body control.

Your attention and intention is said to lead the energy so you have to be careful as to what you are doing.

It takes a long time and a lot of meditation to build up the energy to make any real progress and so far I have been way to lazy for that even though I know the basic proses.

Sadly I am short on motivation for meditation at the moment. I have done a fair bit of Hard Qi Gong in the past, dynamic tension exercises coupled with breathing and diaphragm control that builds the bodies energy up a lot. To make best use of it for more than short term health and strength increase it has to be matched with the other exercises to bring it to the centre or it will all burn off. I have been planing to take more time for training in the next year.

To outline what my training would be if I was looking to make real progress with my energy.

Morning basic Qi Gong to get things moving followed by hard Qi Gong and a soft warm down then seated meditation to enter the correct state and build more power in the abdomen. Once in the appropriate state I would practice Embryonic Breathing for about 20 min.
I would do the same again in the evening.

The Qi Gong builds the power and the Embryonic Breathing is to store it. Eventually you supposedly need to compress your energy to increase your capacity or it will all just be defused around your body. This is all said to take a long time as your body gradually adapts to running on higher power.

There are lots of guidelines I wont go into involving the weather, sex and the time of day.

    I work with Systema breathing.

They have different breathing techniques but seem to be easier. I cannot compare what they result in, I only can say that Systema breathing works.

There are other energy works I do but it would lead too far, they are basically shamanic based.

Systema may be based on a shamanic tradition according to this guy

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Art-Being-Fl...4697608&sr=1-1

He says his grandfather was made to teach his art to some KGB guys and that they incorporated the flow and the breathing into Systema.

The breathing I use can be a bit complicated at first but it becomes very natural, it really works for me and is the biggest factor in increasing the energy. It can also be done at more impromptu times and is an integral part of the martial arts I practice. It is all much simpler than I made it sound once you know the theory.

There are different theories as to where the systema breathing stems from.

    M. Ryabko says it derives from Hesychasm, a russian orthodox monk practise if breathing, prayer and posture exercises.

The earliest record says, Ryabko found in an SS-Archive in Petersburg scripts from an indian source, describing their fighting teaching and got it from there.

Don't know and don't care. I use it and see it works.
