My guess : Hillerman could be a west-Med/paleo-Atlantid , while Tom Selleck a robust Atlantid-Brunn

To my eyes, both seem to be more celtic in origin than germanic to be sincere. Anyway, in my fervid imagination Hillerman could be, phenotypically, one of the first ancient inhabitants of british isles (Picts or proto-Celts) little sized abit dark and refined, less or more. Tom Sellek could be an invader of Celtic era, a bit lighter and notably big-sized.

I see Higgins as the archtypical German SS Officer to be honest, but that could be because of his dogs.

    You are very right.
It is the Germanic dog for me, it is beautiful, potentially lethal and has a noble and intelligent character. Our family has owned and occassionally bred Dobermann Pinschers for generations.

I prefer German Shepherds. Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't Dobermann's related to Rottweilers?

I remember this show being on. (Oops, is my age showing? )

Is it possible Hillerman could have some Brunn admixture? He has the cleft in is chin which is usually considered a brunn trait. He looks much different when he was younger, with less weight on him, and more hair on his head. There is a younger pic here on the Ellery Queen show site.

I've never watched the Ellery Queen show, but the books are quite good, comparable to Agatha Christie. Two good mystery writers.

    Selleck: Brünn-Paleoatlantid sounds correct.

Hillerman: West-Mediterranan (Predominant)/ North-Atlantid or even some Nordic((Low level) admixture possible. People with cleft in the chin can be Mediterranean too. Please, kindly check the attached pictures.
