Question American Religiosity and the Death Penalty

some that's always puzzled is that why America is the only western industrialized nation other than japan (and even japan uses it very rarely in extreme cases) to still have the death penalty even when it's the most religious.

The death penalty varies from state to state because of our vote, but I must agree it makes no sense in a nation that claims to be Christian, and the bible instructs you to love your neighbor, Im against the death penalty, however I think that politicians twist the bible for their own agenda. ex. An Eye For An Eye And A Tooth For A Tooth. thats the best sense I can make out of it. But there's alot of flip floping going on in the U S A.
