Dirt. My place's gotta be tidy or I can't feel well.
Birds. No idea why, I just freak around them.

I am afraid of stomach cramps and nausea whether induced by illness or Gastro-intestinal ailments. I have frequently this feeling of nauseating stuff in my throat, which makes me always think about death. That's why I gave up smoking and only drink coffee in the afternoon. As to alcohol well I have to be more careful with that.

@ Hussar: I dread losing someone too. It's generally my only obsession.

When I was a kid I the only way I would get into my bed was to take a running start and a flying leap onto it from afar, in order to thwart the attempts of whatever evil being lurked under it waiting to pull me in. Once I was in the bed, I was worried that there were snakes under the covers by my feet, so I would tuck them up as far as possible. I'm no longer worried about snakes, but I am still in the habit of sleeping in the fetal position.

Also, I absolutely cannot stand to have metal in my mouth, or have people poking around in there in general. I have to be gassed every single time I go to the dentist, because I've taken a few swings at him in the past and ripped equipment out of my mouth. He is a very understanding guy and I feel very lucky to have such a dentist who is willing to work with me and my phobia.

    I can't stand homeless people, I'm not sure if it's a phobia.

Delirium furiosum: a brain disease caused by traveling too fast, or seeing fast vehicles drive by, on a regular basis.

My grandmother used to tell me of medical experiments showing the effects of railway speed from her childhood. Apparently birds die at 40 km/h... and we get onto trains that run about 300 km/h without even thinking about it. I currently spend around 2 hours each day in transit.

    Phobias

I have had two major phobias, one of which I overcame. As a child, I was so afraid of heights that on a second floor porch, I would stand with my back against the wall to be as far from the railing as possible.

I overcame that phobia by forcing myself to climb a couple of observation towers and to take a ride in a light 'plane. I actually over-compensated for my fear of heights to the extent that I once took a landscape photograph while standing on a one-square-yard pinnacle of rock with a drop ranging from 800 to 1100 feet on various sides. :screwy

N.B., I was sharing that square yard with a large tripod and a bulky 11"X14" view camera.

My other phobia is claustrophobia and I cannot cope with that if I am alone in a confined space. I panic. If I have someone to talk to, I can keep my mind off the confinement. That phobia was greatly aggravated by a visit to a deep copper mine in Montana in 1963 . I nearly cracked up in that mine.

Being caught in a stalled elevator alone would probably unhinge my mind. Even with others present, I am hard-pressed to refrain from screaming. Panic
is a terrible thing. Reasoning has no effect on it. :eek
