Hard to say really so here found this on youtube. Great music to sit and listen to in the dark alone with your mind.

I'm currently listening to Neil Young's "Southern Man". I love Neil Young and the song "Southern Man" but really it's a bit of a sob story..."I heard screamin' and bull-whips crackin', southern change is gonna come at last, southern man when are you gonna pay him back, etc".

I'm so glad Lynyrd Skynyrd did "Sweet Home Alabama" in response. "Well, I heard Mr. Young sing about her. Well, I heard ole Neil put her down. Well, I hope Neil Young will remember. A Southern Man don't need him around anyhow."

Actually, I thought Lynyrd Skynyrd's song was in response to the song "Alabama" from the album "Harvest". The last line to the song comes to mind: "Alabama, you've got the rest of the Union, to help you along. So what went wrong?"

Current track I'm listening to is Faith No More's "We care a lot"
    Dick Dastardly: "MUTTLEY, DO SOMETHING!!!!"
    Muttley: "Hehehehehehehehehe"

"And now, Harry, let us step out into the night and pursue that flighty temptress, adventure." - Albus Dumbledore, from Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

Maybe so...but how do you explain the lines :a "southern man don't need him around anyhow."...etc.

I always thought ( and was told by others) that the song was in response to "Southern Man". I'm pretty sure it's in reference to the Neil Young song "Southern Man".
