    The Residence of My Dreams

If you could choose, what kind of house would you live in?

Most people live under quite standardized circumstances in normal houses.

But many dream about living in a quite different house than the one they live in at present.
Also the surrounding area could be completely different.

Do you have any dreams of living in a special house?

....Show us a picture of your dream residence?

    This is mine!

This lighthouse would be perfect for me. I could enjoy my work, tea, pipe and cognac in peace here...
Little disturbance, exept of the seagulls and telephones from reporters, liebhabers and disciples.

Suitable to walk naked about and paint pictures of friends from Skadi that I have invited to stay at the lighthouse for a while...

Re: The Residence of my Dreams

Godiva and I want a mead hall house, like Meduseld in Rohan. Here's Peter Jackson's set designer's idea of how Meduseld looks:

We want to have something a little more authentic, and we do research on old mead halls and longhouses when we get the chance so we can make the plans for it. We plan to actually build it someday and live in it on our land (which we also plan to get someday).

The big difficulty is designing a house with some of the modern amenities (like indoor plumbing and electricity) but that conforms to a fifteen-hundred-year-old architectural style.

Re: The Residence of my Dreams

On occasion I sit with my pad of graph paper and draw whole homes, complete with a scale. I count up square footage and figure approximate building costs, including various materials. I mark for lighting, windows, doors, etc. I will spend weeks planning out a home. I think about where I would place the furniture, and how much space I would like in each room. I plan where I'd like the windows relative to furniture pieces. Then I sketch what the front of the house would look like, the garden, the back yard and porch, etc. In the end, after going on one of these sprees, I close up my book and put it aside until I get it in me to draw a new home.

One of my favorites I have drawn is a sort of rectangular design centered around an inner courtyard/garden. There are doors from both the foyer and the living room which lead out to this area. This house was designed with a library to house all my books, and a "classroom" for homeschooling my children. Other than that it has all the basics. There is a hallway inside the house that leads all around the inner "garden" area so that from inside the house you can look out into the garden. One wing of the house is primarily the beddrooms. I like to have my children close to me, so their rooms are near the master bedroom instead of far away like some homes have. In the other wing are areas such as the formal dining room, kitchen, etc. The breakfast nook off of the kitchen has large windows for looking out across the back yard.

Anyhow, I know it is difficult to imagine. This is one of the largest homes I have drawn and would cost more than I could ever dream of affording. I just like to draw them. I collect miniatures.... like furniture and such. I used to have a house I built (liek a doll house), but it was so large I had to give it up years ago. I would get wall paper and do the walls. Carpet scraps and carpet the floors. Then I would arrange all my miniature furniture inside of it. I always wanted lights, but never got around to buying any. I would even sew little curtains to hang, bed linens, place mats, etc. One day I will build a new home for my miniatures. Right now they are packed away in a box. Google search terms like "miniature kitchen" and "miniture dining room." You can find pictures of thing like what I collect.

Deep in the Smokey Mountains; my home is a small log cabin near a stream.

I don't really care. It'd be cool to have a big house and all but as long as my kids and Jennifer are with me I really don't care what house it is (so long as it is not on the streets ).

That would of course be implicit,
taken care of, and up to their free will.

What about you, are you so lucky that you live with your parents?

Re: The Residence of my Dreams

Something like this would be great:

Enough livingspace for me and my family and maybe some good friends and their families. The surrounding would be the best for the children. The building itself is robust and useful with plenty of space. The possibility to grow something eatable there, maybe having some domestic animals exists, too. Horses would fit in great, too.
