Definitely a log home. Doesn't need be huge, just in an amazing setting near trees, mountains and preferably a lake or stream:

On my Grandparents land or someplace similar(there is both a gas and water well, woods creek hills, ravine, barn).

Old farm house with: a studio with north windows, a fireplace, a library, 3/4 bedrooms, stone basement, pantry, well equipped open kitchen, multiple porches, mudroom, 2 'mother's suites' and a game room. I would want one or two 4-season cabins for friends and family.

In my dreams the barn would house two horses and a a few goats.A dozen chickens for eggs and a 1/2- 1 acre garden for veggies. Rotational grazing for the horses, goats and chickens. Several acres of grapes , as well as some apple, pear and peach trees. Blueberries and raspberries(strawberries require too much bending).

Land of the Free because of the Brave.

I love old Victorian homes with brick or wood exterior, large porches fitted with rocking chairs or wicker furniture, balconies, hardwood floors throughout, fancy wallpaper, antique furniture, real tile on the bathroom and kitchen floors, and a lovely garden with fruit and flowering trees. It shouldn't be too far from downtown. I always thought Victorian homes look like lovely dollhouses.

I'd want a house like this one. Old and worn out (but still with a solid structure) but without much renovation done to it in the last half a century or so, at least. I couldn't find a picture of one with the exact look that I want that would work, it should look more rugged and old and preferably there shouldn't be much of a front porch either, I'd rather have some furniture out in the garden instead, but you get the general idea. Old timbered wooden houses of this type are just beautiful, they have alot of character to them and blend in nicely with their surroundings. Modern houses (and even renovated old houses) are more often than not eye-sores, and just look out of place on the countryside.

It would have to include a decent partition of woodland and some other land to go with it.

I wouldn't mind something like this:

Somewhere imbetween the bush and the ocean would be lovely.

Some mansion in the Jugendstil in the middle of nowhere. I.E. Something like this:

    Somewhere around here:

Not quite as extreme in location, but you sort of get the picture. If you're from Austria, or Bavaria, you'll also get the reference to Hintertupfing and Hinterholz 8.
-In kalte Schatten versunken...

(Heimdalls Wacht, In kalte Schatten versunken, stanzas 4-6)

    Small but fortified.
    Historic, preferably “haunted”.
Set into a hill, overlooking a vast plain in one direction with an endless stretch of forest in the other.
Mountains can be seen in the distance.
Not another soul or building for miles.
A decent-sized lake would be nice.
    Perfect for a large family.
