The Netherlands in the 16th-17th Century

Various old schoolplates, giving a short representation of the Netherlands (that includes the Flemish) during the 16th and 17th century.

This was the most warlike time the Netherlands ever had (80 yrs. war with Spain, wars with the English, French etc..) But also the most prosperous, the Dutch fleets sailed/traded over the world and founded colonies like: New Amsterdam(New York), Kaapstadt (Capetown), Nederlands Indie (Indonesia). Also the hunting on whales was one of the great profits the Dutch made venturing through the icy Arctic seas.

    Our golden age!

Great find... where did you get those schoolplates, if I may ask?
