    Mongol Admixture in Ukraine

I have been doing some research into Mongol wars with East Europe/Ukrainians. Wondering, when the Europeans drove the Mongols out of Kiev, how much Mongol DNA was left behind? I have heard of the Tartars, but I was more interested in the areas around Kiev and mainland Ukraine. Does the left over Mongol blood show in Ukrainian peoples phenotypes ? And does anyone have a study that show a percentage of Mongol blood in the Ukrainian population, and what areas have the most?

    Thank You

Mongols aside there have been asian incursian in russia/ukraine since pre-historic times. Even scynthian graveyards sometimes contain semi-mongoloid skeletons. So the mongolization of the steppes is more complex, and understanding of it needs a much larger outlook than just the mongol period.

Modern day Tartars are descended from Bulgars from the Volga who were conquered by the Mongols. This alone allows us to see how asian strains have been a part of russia since history was created, although there has always been a heavily dominant caucasian character to the steppe peoples of which the nordic was the predominant phenotype. As for the Mongols I doubt they settled in large numbers if at all in Russia or Ukraine however someone may know better than me.

There's hardly any mongol blood in the Ukraine.Almost no Mongols settled down back then.Even the ammount of mongolid blood from mongolids from other parts of the USSR should be bigger than the part of the Mongols.I also could not find any Mongol components in the halotypes of Ukraine.

I think you may mistake mongol admixture with East-Baltid phenotype. For example this Ukrainian girl is pred. East-Baltid but she has nothing to do with mongol invasion many centuries ago, this theory is ridiculous.

How would you classify Charles Bronson & Jack Palance. Bronson was Polish and Palance was Ukrainian. They both look like they have non-European ancestry to me but I'm not that familiar with Eastern-European phenotypes on a personal level.

I've seen many Ukrainians with that psuedo-epicanthus. Where does it come from, Skildur?
I always thought this was the Ladogan type, but I understand many Russians don't recognize that classification.

2nd guy looks European to me - couldn't believe he is Ukrainian though. He is probably Pontid. Bronson can be partly Uralic.

Don't know. Not sure that there are many Ladogans among Ukrainians. Ukrainians are mostly pred. Pontids and Dinarids, I think.

    Re: Mongol Admixture in Ukraine

Like most of the other peoples, they have a round skull formation, high cheek bones and straight hair.

To expand the definition a little further, the skull is planooccipital, the nose tends to be convex but many times straight. The face looks neotenic to some degree. The forehead slopes in harmony with the nose. Can someone tell me, what is the prevelance of this type in ukraine?
The predominant type in minussinsk kurgans
    kind regards
