    Post Frank Sinatra

Does any one listen to Frank Sinatra or like his music?

The reason I ask is kind of personal. Over the last week I've had a revelation. I've been involved in music for 30 years (guitar) but never really pursued it. I've always thought if I were to create a CD it would be metal or rock. Instrumentally, my range is metal, rock, country, jazz. Fairly broad. Vocally, my range is much narrower. It is similar to Frank Sinatra type jazz. I can put on some jazz music and start singing in key and making up the words as I go.

When I first moved to Montreal, a female friend invited me over to her boyfriends place. He showed my some finger excerises. I asked if I could try and he said yes. I sat down and pounded out a melody. And this is before I bought a keyboard but wasn't the first I played one. The boyfriend seemed kind of jealous. His girlfriend said it was beautiful and that the piano is my instrument. I don't have long piano fingers though.

Anyway, if I ever make a CD (and I probably will), the singing style will be like Frank Sinatra but with less of the "big band" sound. Probably more piano and stand-up bass.

I like some Frank Sinatra songs, though I dislike the whole Rat Pack-Vegas lifestyle. Jazz/big bang music is really hit-or-miss with me; some songs I really like, but most I find annoying.
I have the same piano problem: I love to play but I have thick, relatively short hands (Baltid genes at work )

I think jazz, some of it anyway, is too complicated for many people to enjoy. Just like classical. More sophisticated people listen to it. The most annoying jazz is the stuff with Negro rhythms. I'm not much of a fan of the big band sound either. Musically, I like acid fusion type stuff best. No singing in that though.

I don't know alot of jazz music. I think instrumentally, my music would probably be closest to say Diana Krall. Harry Connick Jr. also comes to mind but I'm not much of a fan of his music.
