    Odin vs. Abrahamic-God

Okay, well, it has been a while since I've made a thread, and last night I had an idea to make a list comparing Odin's treatment of Humanity to the Biblical Abrahamic (Christianity, Islam, and Judaism) God's treatment of Humanity.

Feel free to add onto the list.

    Odin --

He created Humanity for the purpose of living and not being forced to worship him.

He sacrificed his eye and even his own life (hanging himself) to gain knowledge and passed it onto the Human race to learn from.

He never made us submit to him and become weaklings.

He never demanded there be a chosen race that would go on to commit genocide against the rest of Humanity.

At the end of time he tried to save Humanity from our enemies and ended up dying.

    He never committed genocide.

He rewarded those who were honorable and brave.

He never threatened us with eternal damnation.

He didn't put up his son to be beaten and killed like an animal.

He was always nice to us

He doesn't force us to read a stupid book with lots of killing and rape.

The religions that spawned from him have never waged genocidal war.

    He gave us ale.

He never killed a single human person.

He doesn't demand we sacrifice blood on an altar for him.

    Bible-God --

You do know Odin is also a war god right? And the heroic sagas have their fair share of deathly violence.

He never killed a single human person.
More then some warriors and kings died by his direct doing.

He doesn't demand we sacrifice blood on an altar for him.
One of the traditional forms of sacrifice to Odin involves the hanging of a human/animal and stabbing said sacrifice with a spear.
The sense of honor is of so fine and delicate a nature that
it is only to be met with in minds which are naturally noble or
cultivated by good examples and a refined education.
    - Sir Richard Steele

We call Odin Wodan also known as 'de woedende' which means the furious.

I can identify more with Odin (and the other Norse gods) because they are not perfect beings.

Many of their failings are actually very human but, overall, their values are noble ones.

In Uppsala and other places they sacrified both animals and humans to Odin. In the sagas you can read that Odin could mess up your battle and make you lose, if you didnt have his favor.

One of the more refined differences is that Germanic Gods are not independent from their creations. They need us. It is us with them against the giants and forces of chaos who seek to destroy us both.
Another one is the absence of absolute good and evil, which could, of course, only exist if there is only one absolute will.
Every creation is a mirror of its creator, Christianity makes it a one-way-mirror, but Germanics knew that they also look in their own faces when they look at the Gods.

These are paramount differences which should make it apparent that Christianity is in no way compatible to our ancestors' found spiritual truth.
"Nothing is more disgusting than the majority: because it consists of a few powerful predecessors, of rogues who adapt themselves, of weak who assimilate themselves, and the masses who imitate without knowing at all what they want." (Johann Wolfgang Goethe)

I must confessed to not having (yet) had time to watch the videos, Ralf, but I think that some kind of cataclysm followed by a renaissance is a common theme to both Paganism and Christianity.

The tales told are different but they amount to pretty much the same thing in the end, with evil eventually taking over the Earth before a new cycle comes along and we start afresh
