Thumbs Up Mother Earth - 'Within Temptation'

Excellent progressive melodic metal with female vocals. I used to be a sucker for this kind of stuff a long time ago, but as of late it has not interested me.

I was just turned onto this band primarily due to this amazing song. The vocal melody in the verse is amazing, in my opinion. Her voice is angelic, if there ever was such a thing. She is Dutch, and I am guessing the rest of the band is.

I will post pics of her in the racial classification section.

    Birds and butterflies
    Rivers and mountains she creates
    But you'll never know
    The next move she'll make
    You can try
But it is useless to ask why
    Cannot control her
    She goes her own way

She rules until the end of time
    She gives and she takes
She rules until the end of time
    She goes her own way

    With every breath
And all the choices that we make
We are only passing through on her way
    I find my strength
Believing that your soul lives on
    Until the end of time
    I'll carry it with me

Once you will know my dear
    You don't have to fear
A new beginning always starts at the end
    Until the end of time

I have the very strong supicion that Sharon den Adel is in fact Jewish.
And all my youth passed by sad-hearted,
    the joy of Spring was never mine;
Autumn blows through me dread of parting,
and my heart dreams and longs to die.

Real misanthropes are not found in solitude, but in the world; since it is experience of life, and not philosophy, which produces real hatred of mankind.

I half wondered this myself, which is why I posted her picture int he racial classifications forum. I am having a hard time finding anything on the internet about her :/

I hope not, because the voice is good. This is the only song from them i have heard however, and until yesterday I had never even heard of this band.

Also.. what makes you think she is? The name? I have never heard that name before and it defintitely sounded armenoid to me.

Armenoid? Armenoid!? System Of A Down are Armenoid. Or Derek Sherinian. Or Charles Aznavour.

Sharon (van) den Adel sounds Dutch - except the very unusual given name - but she certainly does not look Dutch in any way. If she is not Jewish she is definitely of Levantine background.

I knew Within Temptation before they had their hit and wasn't impressed. They certainly developed a lot musically. Like Tarja (Nightwish), Sharon's voice starts to get on one's nerves after a while. I prefer Anneke van Giersbergen (The Gathering) as far as Dutch Gothic/pop bands are concerned. Or, internationally, Kimberly Goss (Sinergy), Leather Leone (Chastain) - heck, even Wendy O. Williams (Plasmatics). There are also a few excellent Gothic/Metal/Dark Wave bands from Germany with great female vocals, such as Darkwell, Dargaard, Elis, Die verbannten Kinder Evas, Erben der Schöpfung, L'âme Immortelle and Die Untoten.

Since I have only heard this one song, I dont know about her vocals getting annoying. i am a big fan of Anneke and The gathering though. My favorite live album ever is Superheat. I do not like Kimberly Goss, especially ever since Ancient. I would prefer Maria from Left Hand Solution (Fevered era) and even Kicki Höijertz from the Shadowdance MCD and "Falling" demo, and her work in Siebenbergen.
