Received this book for Christmas from an uncle.

Misleading title however, the book stops when the official battle for the Rhine starts, it's really about the prelude to the breakthrough on the Rhine (Market Garden and the bogged down Western Front after the failure of Market Garden), which, I guess, could be considered a battle for the Rhine of sorts too.

British military (armchair) historians love to criticize the American strategy in WW2, especially after D-Day, and American military (armchair) historians take their time to rip holes in the British strategy, especially prior to D-Day. This book belongs to the former genre. The author's arguments regarding the British narrow front strategy (allies ignoring and not liberating most of France after breaking out of Normandy and pushing straight through the Low Countries to reach Northern Germany instead of Eisenhower's historical strategy of overrunning as much of France as possible) are compelling and convinced me.

No, I looked around for a translation but it does not exist. It's a shame because the Dutch author is the go-to authority on Scandinavian (mostly Danish) activity in the Low Countries in the 9th and 10th centuries. He devoted countless books to the era but this amazing book is the benchmark for the genre in the Low Countries.

Thanks. It really looks interesting. It's pretty easy though to understand Dutch in print but I'd probably still wouldn't understand large parts. Shame indeed.

“Margaret MacMillan has produced another seminal work. . . . She is right that we must, more than ever, think about war. And she has shown us how in this brilliant, elegantly written book.”—H.R. McMaster, author of Dereliction of Duty and Battlegrounds: The Fight to Defend the Free World

The instinct to fight may be innate in human nature, but war—organized violence—comes with organized society. War has shaped humanity’s history, its social and political institutions, its values and ideas. Our very language, our public spaces, our private memories, and some of our greatest cultural treasures reflect the glory and the misery of war. War is an uncomfortable and challenging subject not least because it brings out both the vilest and the noblest aspects of humanity.

Margaret MacMillan looks at the ways in which war has influenced human society and how, in turn, changes in political organization, technology, or ideologies have affected how and why we fight. War: How Conflict Shaped Us explores such much-debated and controversial questions as: When did war first start? Does human nature doom us to fight one another? Why has war been described as the most organized of all human activities? Why are warriors almost always men? Is war ever within our control?

Drawing on lessons from wars throughout the past, from classical history to the present day, MacMillan reveals the many faces of war—the way it has determined our past, our future, our views of the world, and our very conception of ourselves.

Hidden History: The Secret Origins of the First World War

Hidden History uniquely exposes those responsible for the First World War. It reveals how accounts of the war’s origins have been deliberately falsified to conceal the guilt of the secret cabal of very rich and powerful men in London responsible for the most heinous crime perpetrated on humanity. For ten years, they plotted the destruction of Germany as the first stage of their plan to take control of the world. The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand was no chance happening. It lit a fuse that had been carefully set through a chain of command stretching from Sarajevo through Belgrade and St Petersburg to that cabal in London.

Our understanding of these events has been firmly trapped in a web of falsehood and duplicity carefully constructed by the victors at Versailles in 1919 and maintained by compliant historians ever since. The official version is fatally flawed, warped by the volume of evidence they destroyed or concealed from public view.

Hidden History poses a tantalising challenge. The authors ask only that you examine the evidence they lay before you . . .

DEUS VULT The Great Reset Elite's End Game and How to fight it

    DEUS VULT The Great Reset

Despite being bombarded with emails trying to tempt me into purchasing swords, robes, battle hammers and medieval helmets, or for that matter to sponsor a chapel window in Jim Dowson’s St Donard’s priory in Ireland, I nevertheless feel compelled to review the second book in The Great Reset series entitled Resistance. Not because I feel that the duo of Dowson and Griffin are likely to replicate the heroism of Orlando Bloom in Kingdom of Heaven but because there are always some pearls of wisdom to be gained from such endeavours.

The second volume, much like the first, is exquisitely produced in leather bindings and with wonderfully embedded insignia that echoes the craftwork of the past. The cover, depicting the face of a supplicant knight kneeling to offer his sword in service is also tasteful and well done, inviting the reader to open the text and begin to read.

    Insightful Analysis

Which is where the problems begin because, once again the content is marred by lazy proof-reading, which immediately detracts from the excellent opening sections entitled The Great Reset and The Test Run Lockdown. Both, I imagine, written by Nick Griffin under the pseudonym the Grand Scrivener. Chapters that are filled with an insightful analysis of the current pandemic and economic turbulence set in motion by the globalists in order to denude the West of its manufacturing capacity, syphon off middle class wealth to the corporates and mega-rich, concentrate property in the hands of predator financial institutions like Blackrock, impose austerity by means of green initiatives overseen by Monsanto and fast-track multiculturalism and state dependency in line with the neo-Marxist tendencies of characters like the Bilderberg advisor and Chairman of the World Economic Forum Klaus Schwab.

A man who has written books with titles like Shaping the Future of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (2018), Covid 19 - The Great Reset (2020), The Aftermath of the Covid 19 Pandemic (2020), The 2021 Covid 19 Predictions (2020) and Stakeholder Capitalism (2021) and who wrote in a piece entitled ‘Altering the Human Being’ about "the ability of new technologies to literally become part of us".

Griffin wisely going on to quote Schwab directly:

“These technologies will operate within our own biology and change how we interface with the world. They are capable of crossing boundaries of body and mind, enhancing our physical capabilities, and even having a lasting impact on life itself. Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies will not stop at becoming part of the physical world around us - they will become part of us.”

    Schwab continuing unabashed:

“Indeed, some of us already feel that our smart phones have become an extension of ourselves. Today’s external devices - from wearable computers to virtual reality headsets - will almost certainly become implantable in our bodies and brains. Exoskeletons and prosthetics will increase our physical power, while advances in neuro-technology will enhance our cognitive abilities. We will be better able to manipulate our genes, and those of our children.”

A Frankenstein future where globalists like Schwab dream of ‘active implantable microchips that break the skin barrier of our bodies’, ‘smart tattoos’, ‘biological computing’ and ‘custom designed organisms’. Ideas that bring to mind science fiction novels like the Philip K. Dick’s A Scanner Darkly (1977) and Kazuo Ishiguro’s Never Let Me Go (2005).

The terrifying thing being, such things, as Griffin points out, are already in motion with the Bill Gates, Rockefeller Foundation, Accenture and Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI), coordinated ID2020 Alliance launching a new digital identity programme:

“The programme to leverage immunization was unveiled by ID 2020 in partnership with the Bangladesh Government’s Access to Information (a2i) Programme.”

A test case Griffin suggests, probably correctly, before launching the Big Pharma programme on the West, with the German Parliament ratifying the roll out there on 29th January 2021. Which is where the strength of this book lies, in its diagnostics of the technocratic approach being taken to weaken the West, as opposed to the following sections about the Early Christian Martyrs, The Covenanters - The Killing Times and Ireland - The Blood of the Martyrs, which feel like gobbets plagiarized from A Level school notes to bulk out the text.

Whereas, later chapters like Currency Crash Crisis, The Laughter of Our Children, Money Matters, Investing in Your Future and What is to be Done? mark a return to relevance, focusing as they do, on demographics, personal attributes, community development outside the system and seceding mentally from the slavish addictions the elites proffer in order to ensnare us.

Firstly, by not giving ‘them’ an excuse to arrest and harass you and secondly by living the resistance by limiting your dependence upon and contributions to what are increasingly illegitimate regimes. Sage advice, that when shorn of the rather ostentatious trappings Dowson and Griffin embellish their product with, makes perfect sense.

It is then, and with a heavy heart, that I can only recommend some sections of this otherwise worthy book to a wider readership. For the mawkish proselytizing and the shameless attempts to encourage people to bequeath their life’s assets to such a suspect outfit is to say the least unsettling. Better they stuck to the task in hand, preparing for the hard times ahead, rather than attempting to pick our pockets while cavorting around in capes and waving bibles as if they were qualified theologians.
