Post Main Population Constituents of Sweden

Lars Beckman, A Contribution to the Physical Anthropology and Population Genetics of Sweden, Variations of the ABO, Rh, MN and P blood Groups, The main population constituents of Sweden, pp. 155-163 Berlingska Boktryckeriet, Lund, 1959.

There are two important points which Beckman made. First is about Tydal race and the second on Västmanland type.

I think Agrippa was right (together with Beckman) on Västmanland type, and Lundman wrong, at the extensive knowledge of our friend Agrippa. I doubt he had read Beckman. I am also concerned why Lundman may have made such a mistake. Was it because of Nordicist bias and his emphasis on western European low-skulled and eastern European high-skulled populations or something else? The Västmanland type is described as long-headed and low-skulled. You need to consider other factors than just C.I and Height-Length Index (HLI). Lundman made it too simple.

Milesian, I also hope you remember our discusson with an Irish-American friend on Tydals and how he saw something "eastern" in the type, and how they were distinct from Palaeo-Atlantids.

Please read the the quotes on Tydal race and Västmanland type.

"In Dalecarlia where LUNDMAN has described the Tydal type, also called the Tydal race (LUNDMAN, 1940), no marked similarities with the west European blood group frequencies have been found. Thus the serological data do not support the hypothesis of a special west European race in northern Dalecarlia."

"The stock of the Scandinavian inland (the dominating type is called the Västmanland type) has also been thought to represent a west European population. LUNDMAN (1946) assumed immigrations to Dalecarlia from the southwest beyond Denmark. Serological characteristics such as high B-, high A1-, and low frequency of Rh-negatives in the kernel area, suggests, however, that this stock is of eastern origin. Furthermore, greyish-light eye pigmentation, low stature and high frequency of concave nasal bridge also suggests an eastern origin.
It follows that the most prominent west European influence exists north and south of Dalecarlia and not within this province."
