These guys look very Eastern European on this picture. Though the guy on the far right does look much more Uralic than the vast majority of North Slavs. He could definitely be part Sami (Lapp). Whether he has some Mongol genes in him is another question altogether.

And yeah, there's definitely something funny going on in the relationship between Slavs and Scandinavians.

Studies indicate that Norwegians are very close genetically to Croatians (!) and Czechs. On the other hand, Slovenians are very close to Swedes. Some Y-chromosome analysis also shows a fair similarity between Poles and Gotlanders. The chief reasons for this, I assume, are that both Slavs and Scandinavians carry a lot of the R1a (Slavic) and I (Germanic) genes. There's also the fact that mtDNA in Europe shows very little diversity, and only shows slight East/West and North/South gradients. Autosomal DNA tests have also faild to come up with major differneces between Europeans, especially northern Europeans, whether Slavic or Germanic. Norwegians also carry the supposedly Slavic mtDNA marker H1. Another big factor is that Slavs and Scandinavians have not been affected by the aboriginal western European blood as much as the British, Dutch and even Germans.

There is, like I said, a geograpghic proximity between these two groups that could explain my findings. But looking at history, there really hasn't been all that much biological contact between them. Any suggestions?

Well, only one actually.

He is a friend of mine who is English/Irish.

Has Blackish brown hair, brown eyes, depressed nasal root, and a median eyefold.

People often ask me if he has any Asian ancestry.

His appearance perplexes me as he is very much phenotypically dissimilar to both parents.

Me thinks he is an anomaly.

I would say that Morten is threepart Tydal(five-edged facial outline, short medium nose and jutting chin), gracilized by a Nordic strain and mixing Uralic obiquity of the eye opening with a Nordic Hangfalte.
