Dr. Solar Wolff, do you think it would be possible to somehow upload the chapters from "The Races of Europe" that are missing to that site (eg via a scanner?)? i've been looking for the book but it is HUGELY expensive (copies at over £500 in the UK!) to buy as it is so very rare and long out of print. So, if you (or anyone) would be so kind, it would make a fantastic complete online resource

    Re: The Origin of Races

It seems as if Coon wasnt too wrong with his thesis that races evolved very early. A sapiens skull in China that is 100000 years old and mongoloid.

If any of these estimates pans out, "the Liujiang [specimen] is revealed as one of the earliest modern humans in East Asia," the team concludes. The presence of modern humans in this part of the world 100,000 years ago or more would roughly coincide with their earliest fossil dates in Africa and the Middle East.

    Re: The Origin of Races

Neanderthals came into existence about 75,000 years ago (or possibly a little earlier) and ended about 40,000 years ago.
A 120 000+ years old, pre-Ice Age neanderthal dwelling has been discovered in Finland. I think that's a bit more than a little earlier.

Most textbooks are giving Neanderthal a beginning point of 300,000BP these days, and of course, there's some staging of Neanderthal going on. The nuclear DNA we have is from much later Neanderthals; 300,000 years is a fairly long time.

When I was in graduate school, the commonly given date was 200,000BP.

    That was a while back.
