    Good thread!
    My opinion:
We are not entirely swedish, and not entirely danish - we are simply scanians/skåningar!

We have our own flag, by the way...

Skåneland: Skåne/scania (the main part of skåneland), Blekinge, Halland and Bornholm (Bornholm belongs to denmark).

honestly speaking, I never knew and I never heard about this Germanic brother people, untill I discovered these links I gave. Well, I knew that southern Sweden was once an part of Denmark, but not that there exist something like an Scanian people with an own language and identity. So, we Germanics exist upon more nationalities then we think.

    About the scanian language:

I know some Scanian words, however, sometimes when my father or mother speaks, I myself has some troubles to understand. It's a dying language Swedish medias are partly to blame... (IMHO)

I hope you understand me, I'm a bit drunk right now

Post Re: A forgotten Germanic people: the Scanians

This is a poem about the scanian man / skåningen

And by the way, I know that Max von Sydow is rather popular here on skadi. Max von sydow is from skåne. You should see this film: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0093713/

Max von Sydow speaks perfect skånska in this movie. It's a great film!

It is basically about how the Scanian is not like anyone else, is beautiful and better than a few other mentioned regions or cities of Sweden.

The Scanian is described as being an adornment of humanity. His gaze is honestly faithful/loyal, his cheeks glow of health and his posture is upright and tall. Still, above all he is most beautiful within. Furthermore, he is wise and quick in his thoughts.

There is nothing negative about the Scanian in that poem.

The link says that Sweden initiated a Swedinisation policy since 1658 and that today Scanian is influenced by Swedish. It does not state how many speakers there are.
Have you got any idea how many speakers there are and what percentage of the Scanian population can speak it?
A! Fredome is a noble thing
Fredome mays man to haiff liking.
Fredome all solace to man giffis,
He levys at es that frely levys.
A noble hart may haiff nane es
Na ellys nocht that may him ples
Gyff fredome failyhe, for fre liking
Is yharnyt our all other thing.
Na he that ay has levyt fre

That is couplyt to foule thyrldome,

Scots is our mother tongue; and if we do not preserve it,
nobody will preserve it for us.
