    Post The Finnish Winter War

The Finnish Army was raised in the revolutionary year of 1918. On the 16th of January 1918, General Lieutenant Carl Gustav Mannerheim was commissioned by the Finnish senate to unite all the home guard (Suojeluskunta) units and to form an army for the new republic. At that time, Finland was divided into two parts, White Finland and Red Finland. Red Finland was controlled by mostly left wing Socialists from the former Finnish Autonomous Republic of Russia, while White Finland was striving to create a relatively democratic state, independent from Soviet Russia. White Finland was decidedly anti-Communist, and Mannerheim and his newly formed troops sided with them. Nearly 200,000 Finns took part in this war and about 18,000 were killed, including civilians. Also on the side of the Whites, was the German Baltic Division lead by Rüdiger von der Goltz (12,000 men) which landed in Hanko, Finland. There were still Russian troops in Finland when the war betwen the Reds and Whites began, and about 3,000 - 5,000 took part on the side of the Reds. Eventually, the anti-Communist forces won after 5 months of fierce fighting, including the battle of Tampere which was the largest battle in Scandinavian history until that time.

After the war, the German connection to Finland began to show. Some Finnish government members at the time desired to make Finland a monarchy, thus they got in touch with the Prince of Hessen Friedrich Karl and decided that he would be the king of Finland. He was officially King for little over a month, but stepped aside when Germany lost WWI. The parliament then elected the first president, K. J. Ståhlberg, to lead the new Finnish democracy.

The non-aggression pact between Germany and Russia in 1938 turned heads in Finland. Germany agreed to give the Baltic states, including Finland, to Russia. Of course, all this was kept a secret, but as time went on, the events became known to the Finns. As Russian aggression grew, the Finns requested help from Germany, only to be turned away - leaving the Finns to face Russia's aggression alone.

    Rest is here:

The treason by NS Germany towards the Finns can never be forgotten. They have they self to blame for Finland's siding with the Soviets in 1944.

The Molotov-Ribbentrop pact is another example how the Hitler regime sacrificed the ideals of the Racial and European community for simple Realpolitik, even if it was a right pact too make. And then breaking it was the death sentence for the over-exhausted Germany.

Finland, the beautiful "synnyinmaa" in the outskirts of Europa; a hallmark of Scandinavia, should be better treated than as a bargain tool by the competing powers such as Russia and Germany. Never again European war and European National cynicism, I hope...

In high school, a long time ago, we had a Finnish foreign exchange student. I was in a debating class with her. For some reason it seemed important for her to state the loyalities of Finnland during WW2. She said that it was a common misconception that Finnland had fought with Germany in WW2. This was all new to me, a 17 year old kid, so I listened. She said something like Finnland had received military aid from Germany but only fought against the Soviets. She said this in a defensive manner. Years later, I saw pictures of Finnish WW2 era aircraft with white and blue swastikas on its wings and thought of this foreign exchange student's discussion. Can anyone explain this?

Her defensiveness is almost certainly the result of the fact that the Finns have received a lot of abuse at the hands of rad-libs for its re-acquiring its lands stolen by Stalin thru a limited alliance with the Germans. At the start of Barbarossa the Finns took those lands lost and limited itself to that. They did not honor German request to take part in further offensive operations (ie Leningrad, the attacks on Moscow, Stalingrad, etc). The Finns did take small quantities of Messerchmitts and arms from the Germans as aid so they could fight defensively. I have seen the photos of the Finn planes with the swastikas; as to whether that symbol was there as a display of solidarity with Germany or not am not certain. The symbol may have been stuck on the planes as a somewhat empty act of appeasement to the NS of Germany.

These same rad-libs who brutalise the Finns over simply taking back lands that were hers in '41 needless to say were quiet when Stalin helped himself to the Finnish lands and took the Baltics in 1940-1941. They were also quiet when Stalin in alliance with Hitler attacked Poland and split that nation in '39; the Reds in our own Western nations only demanded that Germany be attacked for its attack upon Poland and not the Russians when that nation had done exactly as Germany had.

The last glaring example supports a very harsh fact. Powerful Western nations , particulalry England and America, and probably France among others, had their leadership infiltrated and are and have been dominated by the forces of radical-liberalism since prior to WW2. Policies since then have been implemented from the top-down to slowly destroy the origonal cultures of those nations. Those populations for the most part continue to sleep on and do nothing of significance to stop what is taking place to them.

Turman found a copy of The Graduate, and thought highly enough of the story that he made a movie he considered to be 90-percent faithful to the book.

But Turman and director Mike Nichols made one key adaptation, changing the Braddocks from WASP-y blonde characters into a dark-haired, more ethnic-looking family.

My Girlfriend is Finnish and her Grandfather fought with the Whites during the winter war.

Stalin seriously underestimated both the Finnish peoples capacity and will to fight. The Finn's only really collaborated with Germany against Russia in order to obtain the arms necessary to repel the Russians invasion. The winter war also lead on to a bitter and bloody civil war between Finnish Communist and Nationalist elements.

    Thank you.

First to avoid misunderstandings: the Swastika is an ancient Aryan and Buddhist mystic symbol. It was adopted by the Finnish Air Force years before the Nazis even existed and so it has nothing to do with them. And that's it!
Neither assimilation nor integration will solve the problems. The only thing that would work from my point of view would be separation. And this separation should be done on a global level, not on a communal level. The western countries here, the islamic countries there. And a very tall border between the two worlds please.
