My mother tongue is Catalan too. What about this option in the poll?

Catalan languague is taught in most important world wide universities and had its golden age during the XIV and XV century when the Catalan Empire dominated the Mediterranean, Italy, Greece and Byzantium.

Catalan language is very similar to Occitan (language d´hoc) and French, due to its birth in a populated area at the Goth´s Septimania it still keeps a lot of Gemanisms, as for example Faubel for grey or Escrig for spear.
Or "Blau" for "Blue" ("Blau" too in German).

Aren´t ten million people enough to be represented on the poll? We have our own educational system, we have autonomous goverment, not enough but it is a home rule. If we make a comparison with other languages as for Welsh, Dutch, Finnish, Dannish, etc they are clearly in numeric disavantage. And moreover the today´s New the first Quixote manuscript has been found and it was written in Catalan!!.

Dutch is spoken by 20-25 million people.

Gaelic is a dead language, so it shouldn't be in the poll.
Neither assimilation nor integration will solve the problems. The only thing that would work from my point of view would be separation. And this separation should be done on a global level, not on a communal level. The western countries here, the islamic countries there. And a very tall border between the two worlds please.

    Spanish is my mother tongue.
I learned English almost immediately, as I spent my first 3 years in the US, and my mother sent me to English lessons when we came back to Argentina. So when I was a child I spoke both, natural Spanish and almost natural English. However, my English has fallen in decay since then. It's still fairly good I believe, but it's not like in my old days.

Gaelic is not a dead language. It is still spoken as a first language in the Scottish Gaidhealtachd.

    Français.
But my grandparents sometimes used to speak Alsatian with me as well.

Slovene, Styrian (Stajerska) dialect though I prefer book language.
To add, most of my lands(wo)men are poli-lingual : vast majority understand Serbo-Croat, youth speaks German (intelligible also to older people in my region) and English; where we border with Hungary and Italy adequte languages are spoken too (i.e. Hungarian, Italian)...

Post Re: What Is Your Mother Tongue?

I was educated in English in the public schools of Hartford, Connecticut. At home both English and bondespråk (a rustic dialect of Norwegian from the Bergen area) were spoken. Having learned it at such an early age, I remember bondespråk rather well, even though my grandmother who spoke it has been dead for nearly 40 years. I studied German in college in 1949 and 1950 and remember that very well also. If I ever knew a German word, it will come to mind if someone asks me about it. I am sure that If I lived in Germany, I would very soon speak German fluently . We don't forget languages that we have learned; it's just difficult to access the files.
