It's not that people need the signs to warn them of the danger, it's that businesses need to cover their rears because our society has become so litigious.

    Blame the lawyers.

YES! I don't argue that many of my country men are idiots, we have perhaps three times as many by percentage as most European countries.

Can you blame the stupidity on genetics? At times, and in some cases yes; the US is a nation full of immigrants, and sadly the immigrants are no longer just northern Europeans like they started out to be.

Can the stupidity be blamed on our education system? In many cases yes; it's no secret that the state funded primary, and secondary schools are sub par compared to other industrial nations. In many cases true learning does not happen here until the university level.

TheAppalachian has a point many of the warnings and disclaimers you have pointed out are a result of the U.S. legal system. Lawsuits are out of control here, and these warning and disclaimers help cover the employers, and manufactures asses, so they don't get sued by the type of people who don't know that coffee is hot and it could scold a person.

I once heard a story about an old lady in the States that sued a microwave company for millions of dollars, because, according to her, the instructions manual did not clearly specify that the microwave is not suitable for living organisms.

She used it to dry her cat after bathing it, and the cat was toasted.

Allegedly, she won the law suit and now has enough money to last her grandchildren.

This is most likely an urban lengend, but it was surely worth mentioning.

    Yup.

Sure, there are lots of stupid people here (and everywhere for that matter) but we have developed into quite the litigious lot. Blame the Jewish lawyers.

I heard the same story. The old lady used to dry her cat in a regular owen succesfully, until he got the microwave.

I'm personally not a big fan of the microwave. I've found that it doesn't cook very thoroughly. A regular oven is much better suited for roasting.

At any rate I hope she enjoyed her meal!
