Ditto as well, but I think you have defined the options rather strangely.

    Let me describe my skin:

When exposed to the sun, I burn red, and almost always peel - after a day or so. So I never hold a tan. Also, I never tan brown, always red. Admittedly, my arms and neck, which have been exposed to the African sun for some decades on a daily basis, are relatively brownish. But the rest of my body is white, and is almost incapable of tanning. I could lay in the sun all day with my belly exposed, but won't tan other than a red burn, which leads to peeling. My shoulders are freckled.

I think I am type II, but I dont know for sure because I always wear a lot of sunscreen or cover my skin up! All I know is I always will burn, but I don't know the details of how I develop a tan.
I envision a world where people dawning long white robes and elaborate headdresses run rampant down the streets, waving their arms in the air while screaming "we've gone mad, we've gone mad", like defrocked monks breaking the silence of ages past.

I voted for type I, yet I may be between type I and type I-II.

My skin is very fair and does not tan, rather freckles and burns.

I am not entirely sure if my skin would tan if I was to say go to a tanning salon, but I don't wannt to take that chance.

I know I went to Hawaii several years ago and I came back nearly identical in terms of skin tone before I had left, and that was well into December. All that had really occurred I suppose was the increase in my susceptibility to getting melanoma later in life.

Our summer season has just started here in Canada, and, although I have consistently applied sunscreen (spf 30), and even gone so far as to bear the heat and wear a black windbreaker in hopes of absorbing the harmful UV rays, as well as wearing pants instead of shorts, and never wearing white, I have still noticed the drastic increase in the number of moles and freckles on my skin.

The vast majority of white people, including blondes, tan well (except redheads). I have to question the objectivity of all these people who claim that they can barely tan. eyes:

Go to some sunny beach somewhere in summer. Almost all of the white people you see will be tanned. These votes so far are very peculiar. My hunch: people are calling their tans "slight" because of insecurities.

Well, maybe I should consider my vote changed from the fourth one down to the third one down, because it is obvious that the consensus here is that "tans well" = looks like a paki or other tropical individual after moderate time in direct sunligt. I never look like that. When I tan to my maximum, the intensity of my skin is similar to that of some northeast asian peoples. To me, that counts as "tans well," and so I think most white people can tan well. Apparently to others here, it means "tans lightly," since there is no way to explain the votes so far unless it is a COMPLETE STATISTICAL FLUKE (i.e. only predominant UPs voted here : ) other than the posters interpreted "tans well" to mean that one turns a dark brown (and not a light brown (ne asian-like) that the vast majority of white people get after exposure to direct sunlight followed by withdrawal from the direct sunlight before turning red and burning).

I have seen many white men and women who I know for a fact are blonde, and their maximum tans are the same as mine.

I'm III to IV, I tan fairly well and I only burn if I have been in the sun for a really long time, usually on my face. However, during winter, my skin becomes very pale and people always ask me if I'm sick because it has a greenish hue to it.
