I'm a redhead with blue eyes, but all of the other hair on my body is white-blond. I never tan, always burn, and freckle.

This makes no sense, unless what I think of as a "good tan" the people who voted here think of as a "light tan." I am from a heavily northern/central European area (Germans and Scandanavians). In high school, after spring break, Nordish people who I knew for a fact were natural blondes would come back much darker (in my opinion) than they were in winter. I really cannot swallow the possibility that these poll results are some statistcal fluke. I guess the bottomline is that these terms, "light" and "well," are way too subjective.
Yes, it does make sense because I CAN'T TAN.

I get my skin tone from my dad, who got his from his Scottish father, who shared the same skin tone as his sister who was a REDHEAD.

Do you deny the validity of my anecdotal evidence? Look up the demographics for Wisconsin. It is the most German state in the U.S., by percentage, with a strong secondary Scandanavian presence.

I actually have to agree with Von Braun on this one. And no, unfortunately, I am not back for good, my computer is still dead and I am using someone else's temporarily. I should be back for real in 2 days or so. I am very fair right after the winter, but I tan quickly. I burn to some degree, but nothing like redheaded pure UP's I've seen. I think Hallstatts and especially Neo-Danubians, since they are both Neolithics who emerged more recently from a sunnier climate, can tan very well compared to UP's. I don't freckle, and I really have to cook pretty well before I'll peel. I'm hardly a Sicilian, but I would say I'm about average for a Nordish guy in terms of tanning ability. Less than an hour outside, I tan nicely and evenly and don't burn. Two hours or more, I usually burn. In summers where I spend a lot of time outside, my hair frequently sunbleaches to platinum blonde and is a few shades lighter than my tanned skin. I don't feel 'less Nordic' because I can tan well for a blonde/blue-eyed guy. It comes from my Hallstatt side, they were all farmers who worked out in the sun all day and tanned nicely My UP ancestors sat inside and ate and drank too much and got pasty and fat

    I'd say I'm a 2. Maybe 2-3. It's tough to say.

Fionn is right about Hallstatts vs UPs. I think the only 1's would be Brunns.

Finally, we have an honest account (a few of the other ones may be honest, but probably mainly the redhead(s)). I have met Fionn in person, and there is nothing questionable about his ancestry. He also appears to be well within the central Nordish range.

I am just like him in this area. I am light skinned after winter. We have been having chilly nights and mild days here until recently, and the first day this year that I wore a short sleeve shirt was last week. That day, I had about 20 minutes of exposure to sunlight (waiting for the bus to and from campus---parking here is a pain) and my forearms were visibly a different shade than my upper arms after that day.

In direct mid-day sunlight, I tan quickly, and the onset of burn symptoms is usually after between one and two hours (burning sensation and redness). I have burned many times before, but I only recall peeling once in recent years, and that was during a fishing trip when I was outside with my shirt off all day and with no suntan lotion on. It was in August, at about 47 degrees north. My trunk skin was peeling for over a week after that. Could this account for the freckles on my upper back and shoulders which Heimdall once told me could be due to some UP influence?
