. . . talking 'bout what original authors thought about their stories put on screen . .

I heard that Michael Ende , German publisher of 'The Neverending Story' ( Die Unendliche Geschichte) was apparently very disappointed by his work put on screen for the first time in '84 . I heard he was even unsatisfied with the way some characters were designed in the movie and told the makers of the movie that they would have been supposed to look totally different than the film crew made them look.

Well , I suppose authors unsatisfied with the way their stories are put on screen ( if they themselves are not involved in the film-making , that is ...) is a neverending story as well..
