I know that immediately after submitting this I'll think of 15 films that are more deserving than those on this list, but here goes anyway...

    The Wicker Man
    Repo Man
    2001: A Space Odyssey
    Dawn of the Dead
    The Texas Chain Saw Massacre
Tuntematon sotilas (1955 version, remake is good too)
    Tähdet kertovat, Komisario Palmu
The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
Once upon a Time in the West
    Conan the Barbarian
    Battle Royale
    The Thing
    X-Men 2
    Invasion of the Body Snatchers
    Akira
    Brazil
    Fargo
    Being John Malcovich
    The Silence of the Lambs
    Fight Club
    Dead Ringers
    The Exorcist

Edit: just as Tolkien always insisted that LotR is one novel instead of a trilogy, I'll list all the LotR movies in one entry instead of just RotK.

Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb
Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter and Spring
    Full Metal Jacket
    Galaxy Quest
    Annie Hall ( )
    Dead Man

    1, Barry Lyndon
    2, Dances with Wolves
    3, Buffalo '66
    2, Legends of the Fall
    3, Sniper
    4, Seven Years in Tibet

"Cypher" is indeed an overlooked gem, despite its race-mixing theme.

If there's race-blending in a film it usually puts me right off.

Any here are my favourites, I don't think there are 30 of them altogether, I'll add more as I think of them.

    Solaris (1972)
    Stalker
    2001
    BladeRunner
    The Andromida Strain
Logans Run (some of these get better with age)
    Barry Lyndon
Micheal Colins (even though the Director is an awful lefty)
    Doctor Strangelove
Metropolis (you have to watch it a few times)
Planet of the Apes (Take your goddamn hands offa' her ya filthy apes! :laugh
    The boys from Brazil
The Good the Bad and the Ugly
    Dirty Harry
    Soylent Green
    Westworld
Zulu (no, I wasn't rooting for the Zulus against the British)
    The Hill
    The Excorcist
    Psycho
    The Passion of the Christ
    Braveheart.
Close observation may result in feelings of horror, wonder and awe at world you find yourself inhabiting.

    Office Space is superb!!

Another film I quite liked was the Polish / Japanese Sci-Fi Avalon . (The cast are Polish but the production crew and story is Japanese)
