    Uhmm...

Average stature of Swedes today (1999) is 179.5 cm. Average stature of Russians in early 80s was 178.8 cm. Now it's 182 cm. Polish stature as I recall is about 178 cm.

First average numbers for such big ethnic groups dont say us too much and 2nd, its more about the form of the body, the body type than about the height only.

    I agree with you.

Even the Japanese get taller but remain Asians.

Why does the Nordic man have good posture, while the East Baltid is slouching? Is this a genetic trait?

    Maybe Nordicism.

I don't think these are so reliable although East-Baltids have a tendency towards the pycnic bodily constitution.

The average Finn (more East-Baltid) is much more pycnic than the average Swede (more Nordid).

I think Agrippa is right. The difference of stature is also probably exaggerated.

Pycnic = endomorphic. It's a somatotype. The endomorph bodies are characterised by broadness of girth.

The general characters are roundness, shortness; lateral and antero-posterior diameters of trunk and extremities tend toward equality.

The body contours are soft. There is little to no muscle relief. The skin of the endormophs is soft and smooth.

The trunk is relatively long, chest wide at base, waistline high and faint. The body breadth above the pelvis is great. The angle of ribs is wide with sternum (breastbone). There is some development of breasts among the men.

The extremities are short, weak, small hands and feet. The outer line of thighs and calves in dorsal or frontal view shows feminine curves.

The bones are small, with thin cortex. There are no external body projections. The vertebral column appears (relatively) straight in profile. The hard palate is low.

The body hair is not excessively developed, pubic hair show feminine pattern. Body hair is often fine and smooth.

Thanks. Is there a website that lists all the body types, not just the big 3?

I'm not sure if there are any good ones, but I know what you can search so you find plenty. My knowledge is mostly from medical studies, in relation to psychology. Hooton wrote some too, based mainly on William Herbert Sheldon. The Pyknic of German Kretschmer correspond to Sheldon's endomorphic. It is unlikely that extreme endomorphy, mesomorphy and ectomorphy occur in more than a few individuals of a population.

You should search for Sheldon and somatotype.

    Here is one: http://www.kheper.net/topics/typology/somatotypes.html
