Yeah, I remember his picture on one of the other racial forums as well. He looks like a rugged UP/Nordic blend of some sort but that is going by Coon's view of such matters.

Volks, is the "Aistin" one of Lundman's types? I will read back in some of the other forums to see if I can find some of your posts on Aistins....

Maybe you could give us a quick synopsis on what an Aistin is...?

Post Re: Re: Re: Classify Request

Yes, it's in Lundman's scheme and I wrote about it in the thread "Who are Europids?":
    http://forums.skadi.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2586

Blond: East-Nordid (except the head height so extraordinarily
alike the West-Nordids, that it could be put as a sub-race of it in
    another draw up)

Is besides that made up by an Aistin sub-race in W. Finland and
Estonia, and an Arin, spread in E. Europe and W. Asia, both tall.

    Aistin is synonym with Aisto-Nordid/West-Baltic/Battle-Axe/East-Nordid.

It's defined as mesocephalic, high vaulted and tall statured and probably not very narrow-faced (Lundman). Can have oberlidfaldte (slanting eyes), can be very blond (usually of the ashen series). Great dimensions of cranial and facial proportions, broad face, thick skull bones, strong chin and fairly flat profile.

I'm not sure that man is a good example. Maybe he's too narrow-faced. Mail me and I will show you how archetypical Aistins look like.

The racial history of Europe (Nordens Rashistoria): an outline (Lundman)

"We can perhaps consider the three groups as three subraces of the Nordid race - namely, the Faelish subrace, the Scando-Nordid subrace, and also the long- and high-skulled East-Nordid subrace. The East-Nordid should be regarded as a subrace of the Nordid race, since it resembled the other two subraces in so many anthropological traits. The region of origin of all three subraces evidently bordered on one another."

"This proto-Indo-European East-Nordid race has now almost disappeared. This is evidently a consequence of the forceful - one might say "explosive"- expansion of the Indo-European peoples. Some living high-skulled Nordid types in Poland, Russia, Finland, and the East Baltic region can be derived from the proto-Indo-European East-Nordids. Thus, not all of the living high-skulled peoples of this part of Europe can be regarded as mixtures of the Scando-Nordid (or East-Mediterranean) and East-Baltid (or Dinarid) races."

    Summary

"The height-length index shows Europe divided into a hypsicephalic or high-skulled East and a chamaecephalic or lowskulled West. The high-skulled zone comprises most of Russia and eastern Europe, the Balkans, Italy and most of Spain. The low-skulled zone includes the British Isles, Scandinavia, the Low Countries, Germany, France, northern Spain, and the Mediterranean Islands."

So eastern European groups are usually high vaulted (high headed/high skulled) and short headed (breadth-lenght Index), while western European ones are low-skulled and long-skulled.

I thought he looked like a tronder or a halstatt with U/P mixture. He could be anglo saxon or a north german. He looks Norwegian or a bit like the actor David MacCallum who was on The Man From U.N.C.L.E. 60's tv series, who was Scottish. I suppose he could be Finnish or Russian as the nordic has a far range in the north.

Well I guess it's Alexander Godunov, a Russian. It's funny because David McCallum played a Russian spy on The Man From U.N.C.L.E.

Trönder is also a higher-skulled East-Nordid type in Lundman's scheme, and related to Aistin.

The type is common in Inner Scandinavia (Norway and Sweden), and Aistin is equally high-skulled or even more so and it's common in SW Finland, W Estonia and it should still be found in NW Russia. But I would need to read about Bunak's Baltic types to say anything for certain. Russian Nordids usually look like Trönder types.

Going by the geography I would say that Trönder is more mixed with Tydalids (as they share the same region in Inner Scandinavia, and Lundman talk about a bipolar stock) in Scandinavia and Aistin with East-Baltids.

I will tell you how the Swedish anthropologist Bertil Lundman wrote about the Aistins in his work "Raser och Folkstockar i
Balto-Skandia" (Physical Races and Ethnic Groups in the Baltic and Scandinavian Countries, 1946):

Aistin, Battle-Axe people came to eastern Sweden through SW Finland and Åland. Another group of Battle-Axe people came from central Europe to the Jutish peninsula, also others, insignificantly later, over Skåne in to western Scandinavia, where they gradually met the eastern stream.

Bunak's Valdaic type may be an Aistin-related type.
