    Dogs are social creatures

Cats may be intellegent, but they are also nachternal: when they are not night stalking for a "kill", they are fast asleep, sleeping almost 18 hous a day. They are not much intetested in people. In fact large varieties of cats pray on humans as a food source. Your housecat would eat U if it was big enough.

Dogs are clearly more social. Dogs were bred from wolves and are social pack animals who posess a hirarchy and leadership and naturally cooperate with eachother in pack activity. In fact they have elaborate systems of communication. A good, intellegent dog bacomes a member of the family that adopts it. Many a dog have saved its masters life in times of crisis. And, ofcourse Dogs do their mess outside. Cats stink up the house pretty badly.

Dogs are clearly superior to cats as loyal friends and companions.

Cats are evil, I've watched them torture birds in my garden. Dogs are morally superior.

I'd love to have a pet cat again. I had two when I was a child and haven't really had one since. They're like very agile babies covered in fur. Nothing makes my day more than putting my ear up to a cat's body and listening to it purr.

Other than that, they're really swell.
As compared to a hound that licks his private parts and then licks you? Or who eats his poop and then gives you a big slobbery dog kiss?

My view is this: I like cats and dogs about equally. However, I like more cats than I like dogs, but when I like a dog I probably like it more than a cat.

For example, my dog is a highly intelligent golden Lab. I like her much more than I like your average cat, not just because she is my dog but because of her intelligence and behavior.

But I like cats more than your average dog or less intelligent dog.

Both are excellent friends to man.

I'm wondering where the nonsensical poll came from in the first place, though. "Dogs should be allowed to breed, just not with cats" --- wTF?
-In kalte Schatten versunken...

(Heimdalls Wacht, In kalte Schatten versunken, stanzas 4-6)

The way I see it, dogs in general tend to be more loyal and braver then cats. I am definetely more a dog-person then a cat-person. Dogs are capable of learning tricks, they listen better, they are less unpredictable and don't bury their excrement in the sandbox our children play in, or puke out furballs everywhere, or piss in your house to mark their territory (at least dogs have the common decency to only piss on trees). Cat's cleaner? My ass. Not that I hate cats, far from it. But I don't see myself ever owning one. Not out of my own free will, that is.

Cats go to ridiculous lengths to conceal their excrement. Dogs go to ridiculous lengths to eat and roll in it. Dogs have some of the most disgusting habits of any animal I know of.

You've taken the cleanest domestic animal and the uncleanest domestic animal and said the uncleanest is cleaner than the cleanest.

Sure, by hiding it in children's playgrounds, parks, gardens... a dog's turd at least you can spot easily, but when your kid builds a sand castle, God only knows how much cat feces is in there... dirty, dirty animals.

Some dogs do, yes. Others don't. See, an individual dog can have a very clear character and personality. Some are as stupid as a cow's backside. Some are very, very clever. My aunt had a little dackel, a very smart and funny thing. He knew exactly how to get people's attention. When they'd be on the phone, he would always "accidentally" drop his bone and kick it under a closet. Then look up, look at the bone, look up again. Then bark... He could also open up his own bench from the inside using his nose. When it was raining, he would not go outside out out of fear to get mud on his paws (he hated that). Rolling in his own excrement? Never. The neigbors dog? Always. So many dogs, so many personalities. Like you have stupid people, you have stupid dogs. Just as there are very stupid cats, aswell as very smart ones.

I didn't say dogs are cleaner then cats. But at least dogs "do their thing" in plain sight where it is easily found, and not hide it for people to only discover when they work in the garden and suddenly have it all over their hands. Dogs don't like themselves then cuff up furballs inside the house. And their urine does not have the extreme ammonia scent as cat's urine. Cat's cleanliness is hugely exaggerated IMHO. Having taken care of an ill relative's cat for six months, I know what I'm talking about.

But of course, as I said before, I'm a dog's person. You obviously are more of a cat person. So I may not be the most neutral of people to give my opinion on the subject.
