Post Re: AW: Who here has relatives who fought in world war 2?

My father was not proud of his father and this caused a lot of problems. My grandfather regretted some of the things he had to do but he used to tell me as a child how great the rallies and marches were. He regreted the loss of his friends and family. He was a man first and proud to be a soldier in the greatest army in the world. He never sought glory he just sought honor for his nation. I cannot but admire him for that. I am a Nationalist because I feel pride in the idea of Canada. I am proud to be his grandson. Most wp and neo's are a joke but those who honour the past know in thier hearts where their loyalties lay.

We come from the land of the ice and snow from the midnight sun where the hot spring blows
Hammer of the gods will drive our ships to new lands to fight the horde sing and cry valhalla i am coming
On we sweep with threshing oar our only goal will be the western shore
We come from the land of the ice and snow from the midnight sun where the hot spring blows
How soft your fields of green can whisper tales of gore of how we calmed the tides of war we are your overlords
On we sweep with threshing oar our only goal will be the western shore
So now you'd better stop and rebuild all your ruins
for peace and trust can win the day despite all your losings

    EYTYXEITE!
Dear Fellows, my uncle, Major George Kourouklis was the commander of 4th Battalion of Artillery in Hellenic border, when Germans were ready to invade Hellas (April 1941). He fought desperately together with his soldiers against Invadors but finally, after a short time the brave Germans broke the front-line and Hellenes soldiers were surrended.
Germans honored Hellenes presenting arms when they were surrended, and a few days after the german Leader Adolf Hitler, in his speach in German Reichstag honored all Hellenes soldiers for their bravery, saying that from all opponents Hellenes were the bravest!
Today Athens' Military Museum exhibits the Uniform, Decorations and Memorabilia of George Kourouklis who actually was a fanatic National Sosialist in his belief as was his Father ( General Andreas Kourouklis ) and the vast majority of Hellenes at the same era.
    Kindest Regards!

My paternal grandfather was an Iron Guard member, but not a combatant and also not a human slayer. He joined because of the theoretical ideas, not because of the actions. He was an intelectual and not a brute. Still, he died short after communist imprisonement. Three of my uncles and my maternal grandfather fought in the WWII, on Romanian (infantery) and Hungarian (honvéd) sides. They have never suffered any consequences and lived a normal life after.

I was asking my father and I found out the divison of my family members:

my paternal grandfather and his brothers:
    54. Infantry Division Napoli,75/76 th regiment.
My grandfather was rather young when he got enlisted, so he didn't really fight much, but his older brothers(who are mostly dead now due to age) ended up fighting a lot.
from my maternal side, my grandfather:
    57th Lombardia,73rd division.
Just close your eyes...can you remember
The generations not so long ago
I feel the shameless urge that we must restore
Our former king to his rightful throne
And with me lords and maidens
We wait for the chosen son's return

    I come alive
    It's a time for celebration
    Our will to restore
Make our past become the futre once more

Still he lives! 2000 years have passed
And still we're yearning for his return
    We fulfill a wishful prohecy
    And so the chanting begins
Hail Caesar...Hail Caesar...we render unto you
    What is still yours

My maternal Grandfather has a life very hard, he fought on the Zara battleship being injuried a couple of times, and then, when the ship went beneath the sea's line after Capo matapan's Battle with UK Forces he found himself with a group of desperates on a small salvation boat.

That was for 3 days and nights until he was picked up by an English boat which gave them to a Greek champ of prisoners.
That before the invasion of Greece by Germans.

I studied much about Domobranci of Slovenia for the Thesis i did in International law, studying the Treaty for Trieste and the border, i know that thousands of them were killed au pair of Italians by Serbians Comunists.

NOw in Italy is more normal to talk about Mussolini and RSI as well of Fascism as a whole, but in Germany i know there is a defamationa against the grandparents made often by parents grown up under '68 generation, that's a bad stuff and that means that this vicious democratic education trew the sons against the parents at the age and still now.
But in Italy this kind of project has been partially broken by the fact that MSI had about 5 or 6% at elections.
So it was more easy to have a border of defence about fascists idea, which in germany wasn't allowed.

Article Eight of the Italian Labour Charter of 1926 states, "The corporate State considers that private enterprise in the sphere of production is the most effective and useful instrument in the interest of the nation." The employer and the employee must be made to work harmoniously in the interest of the nation.

I think (as far as I have been told) that most people in my family helped Allies.

My grandfather fought in the US army, but I did have distant relatives back in the old country who fought with the Wehrmacht.

Or was your family already in the States? I think this might be the reason.

Both my grandparents fought in WWII for the United States, and both survived. My mother's father was a paratrooper, and died several years before I was born. My father's father fought in general infantry, and still lives today.
