I enjoy the Nibelungenlied, but I have to say that I find Wagner's other source for the Ring cycle, the Saga of the Volsungs, much more gripping. The Volsunga-saga has the famous encounter with the dragon. It's probably the finest of all of the Norse sagas.

I suppose it comes down to which of the two parts you prefer -- Siegfried or Götterdämmergung. I've always preferred Siegfried.
