Conan the Barbarian is my all time favourite movie and obviously grew up with Arnie being the top action movie star. His achievements in bodybuilding and movies are impressive but then he is just an on the surface conservative/republican and just part of the establishment. However, I can separate the two aspects.

Jesse Ventura was interviewed some years ago and related his own experience winning the governorship of Minnesota as an independent. Directly after his inauguration, he was ushered to the basement of the capitol building where he found himself surrounded by 9 CIA operatives. It was supposedly a cordial meeting, but they did say they were there to find out how he had managed to win.

I have to say , though, that Arnie starred in some of the most interesting movies.
- The Running Man
... where he plays a kind of dissident in quarrel with a totalitarian state.
- The Terminator series
As I already said in the movies-thread, an interesting dystopic vision of the future..

In my opinion one of the best movies ever made with an interesting plot.

Now , it may be idle to ponder if those movies would have had the same sucess without Arnold in them . . but . . to quote my point in the movies-thread : "Good theater is still google theater"
Lots of Americans lost respect for him when he had an affair and child by his Hispanic housekeeper. His son looks a lot like him as an adult though. The maid is not very good-looking, but Arnold got his divorce after 10 years in the works.
This guy from The Simpsons was supposed to be an allusion to Schwarzenegger . . 'Rainier Wolfcastle' . .
Since the Simpsons were supposed to be a picture of alledged American society they had all kinds of allusions to people . .
What I like about that movie is that , practically as soon as one would think in the movie that the truth is out who the protagonist is the storyline constantly changes . . Apart from that , an interesting scenario to have a story set on Mars colonised by man . .

When he and Devito portrayed twins in a movie , with Schwarzenegger bein' a tall muscle-guy and Devito a very little well, not so handsome guy.
Regardless what one thinks about the movie-industry as such, I think portraying Devito and Arnold as two not very similar siblings was hilarious
By the way , one of the most skilled acting jobs by Devito I think was this : https://vnnforum.com/showthread.php?...60#post2248260 ( yes , I said in that thread back then that I didn't like the film which is somewhat true, nevertheless Devito did a good job in portraying that 'tragic' character 'The Penguin' )
