    What does it matter?

Still lost the war for allying with very non-aryan nations of Italy and Japan.

I mean come on wasnt it the Romans who killed Germanic tribes?

And wasnt it the asiatics who killed all those Nordic Russians and Poles and what not.

Germany had some of the best military minds in the world, even in Roman times, It took the Romans longer to conquer Germania then any other area. Marcus Aurelius was in the Germanic area for upwards of 13 years. AAlthough strategy in these times were limited at best.

What tnbt says is not completely stupid, as he highlights the importance of IDEOLOGY in politics.
If an alliance was to be done purely on racial grounds, then he would have allied with the British.

    No, the alliance was on ideological grounds;
Italian Fascism gave Hitler the inspiration for National Socialism, and so was of course compatible with it.
Likewise, Japanese Imperialism had much in common with Fascism/NS.

All three powers were also proudly racialist and militaristic, which brings on to generals.

It is usually said that Hitler interfered too much with the decisions of his generals during the war from Dunkirk onwards. Had he adopted the hands-off approach of Churchill things may have turned out differently.

    Without a second thought,Heinz Guderian.

    The tank master hands down!

No man on the planet understood its uses as much as he.
    Read his book'Panzer'

The others named were all fine Generals,no doubt Germany had the best.

Sepp Dietrich made the most visits to his SS soldiers in the east and was known for his great carring additude toward his men.

Yes, Sepp Dietrich came to my mind as well. First, he was Bavarian. Second, he proved his toughness and leadership on countless occasions.

Hitler had this to say in February 1942:

The role of Sepp Dietrich is unique. I have always given him the opportunity to intervene at sore spots. He is a man who is simultaneously cunning, energetic and brutal. Under his swashbuckling appearance, Dietrich is a serious, conscientious, and scrupulous character... He is a Bavarian Wrangel, someone irreplaceable. For the German people Sepp Dietrich is a national institution. For me personally there is also the fact that he is one of my oldest companions in the struggle.

The greatest German general was Herrmann.

"Wuestenfuchs" fought the Allies on more or less equal footing considering air power so he deserves mention.

Sepp Dietrich wasn't a general, was he?

The best soldier, regardless of rank< in WW2 on any side was Otto Skorzeny. Skorzeny achieved the impossible over and over with or without an army. If he had been an American, he could have made his own war movies afterward and we would never have heard of John Wayne.

Yes, Sepp Dietrich was made SS-Oberst-Gruppenführer 4 July 1934 in recognition of his leading role in the Röhm affair. Click the image below for a larger view.

I vote on Heinz Guderian, but the greatest of all is, although not on the list, is Paul von Hindenburg, the victory of Tannenberg during the first world war.
